Galaxy Note 7 refurb will have a drastically reduced price

Although it's off to a strong start, the hype around the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will most likely have died down after two or so months. Samsung, however, has a strategy that will keep its name in the news, though probably not all in a good way. According to Korean media, the OEM will be re-launching the Galaxy Note 7 in Korea by the end of June. Of course, it will be a refurbished version, and one that will have a significantly lower battery capacity and a matching significantly lower price tag.

Refurbished and original Galaxy Note 7 land at Wi-Fi Alliance

Refurbished and original Galaxy Note 7 land at Wi-Fi Alliance

It is no secret that Samsung still wants to salvage what little is left of the Galaxy Note 7's reputation. Whether that's a wise move or not is something we'll leave to the Korean OEM to find out. Also not surprising is the fact that this refurbished model has reportedly been seen at the Wi-Fi Alliance for certification. That just means its arrival is coming soon. What is surprising, however, is to see the original Galaxy Note 7 making that same appearance and with the same certification as the refurbished model.

Galaxy S8+ iFixit teardown could reignite battery fears

Galaxy S8+ iFixit teardown could reignite battery fears

Given the scathing experience Samsung suffered over the Galaxy Note 7's battery, you'd think they'd have learned their lesson by now. That might actually be true but, based on iFixit's surprising discovery, that might also not be the case completely. Doing a teardown of both the Gaalxy S8 and the larger Galaxy S8+, the team discovered that the Galaxy S8+ virtually has the same battery as the Galaxy Note 7. Although Samsung might be confident that it has sufficiently addressed the QA issues that led to the explosive batteries, consumers might not be completely convinced.

That Galaxy S8 Plus with 2x camera may release with Note 8

A Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus 2x camera prototype revealed in a recent leak has been tipped to release later this year. Instead of appearing as the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus, this device is said to be moving forward as the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. This shouldn't come as too much of a surprise given the relative size, shape, and features of past Galaxy S and Note releases. Where one goes, the other inevitably follows - with a few bonus features.

What Note 7 fallout? Galaxy S8 preorders are huge

What Note 7 fallout? Galaxy S8 preorders are huge

This morning reports from several sources suggest that preorders for the Samsung Galaxy S8 are well and above those for the Galaxy S7. Last year's Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, says Samsung, have been "outpaced" by those of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus (or S8+, if you prefer) in pre-orders here in the United States. Samsung adds that this outpacing is "with strong double digit growth" to boot.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will live again as a refurb

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will live again as a refurb

The ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 will rise again, Samsung says, in the form of 'refurbished or rental phones.' Such information was provided as part of Samsung's overall statement on how it will handle recycling the mass of Note 7 handsets in a way that is friendly to the environment. In addition to refurbishing the phones when possible, the company will also salvage components and extract metals.

Samsung releasing Note 7 update in Korea to disable charging

Samsung releasing Note 7 update in Korea to disable charging

Samsung has been mostly successful in getting those with a defective Galaxy Note 7 to turn their phones in, but as always, there are a certain amount of stragglers who are still using theirs. Samsung has tried a few things to get these consumers to hand in their phones, from offering trade-in credits to limiting the amount the phone's battery can charge through a software update. With a few people out there still using a potentially dangerous phone, it seems that Samsung now has to get a little more serious.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 codenamed “Great”, begs to be debunked

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 codenamed “Great”, begs to be debunked

Pride cometh before the fall? Perhaps. It is definitely a case of tempting fate. Word has gone out that Samsung has chosen a codename for this year’s Galaxy Note phablet and, while it doesn’t really tell us anything new, it does hint at the company’s ambitions for the device. The Galaxy Note 8 will supposedly be called, at least internally, “Great”, perhaps to juxtapose it with the not so great Galaxy Note 7. Of course, in doing so, Samsung is almost challenging everyone to prove it wrong.

Samsung Galaxy S8 release date nears with compelling new photos

Samsung Galaxy S8 release date nears with compelling new photos

A set of photos has leaked with what appears to be a Samsung Galaxy S8 dummy unit phone. This device almost certainly isn't actually a full-fledged Samsung Galaxy S8, but a model created by accessory-makers. This 3D model - as we can safely assume it is - looks very much like the last several rendered images we've come across over the past week. With this new device, Samsung may break new ground by making no flat-screened smartphones in their main Galaxy S initial launch.

Samsung’s Note 7 recall prompts tough new battery regulations

Samsung’s Note 7 recall prompts tough new battery regulations

Eagle-eyed inspectors will be watching over Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 and other upcoming smartphones to ensure there's no battery explosion repeat, South Korean regulators confirmed today. In the aftermath of the Galaxy Note 7 recall - which saw Samsung forced to refund every buyer of the phablet worldwide, as well as hear its flawed flagship declared unsafe at the start of every flight - battery pack safety testing has suddenly become a high-profile commitment. Now, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in Samsung's home country is weighing in too.

Galaxy S8 reaches peak leak: release date, specs, and features

The Samsung Galaxy S8 seems to have reached the point in its pre-release timeline where we're privy to most of its release details. This is before Samsung has shared much of anything officially, of course, but with a phone this highly anticipated, there's little chance (it seems) that data leaks would occur. As such, we're running down all the details that we've gathered over the past several weeks, lining them up into the best picture of what Samsung will show off this Spring in the Galaxy S line of smartphones.

As chip sales save 2016, Samsung looks to Note 8 for 2017 profit

Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 may have tested the old "any publicity is good publicity" adage, but bumper chip demand has paved the way for a surprisingly successful 2017, the company predicts. Sales of memory chips helped assuage the financial hit from recalling millions of Note 7 handsets over fears they could explode, the South Korean firm said today, with record high prices in the final quarter of 2016. Indeed, Samsung's Q4 operating profit surged by 50-percent.
