LG Root Checker Tool causing rooted phones to lag terribly

LG Root Checker Tool causing rooted phones to lag terribly

As far as openness goes, LG seems to sit somewhere in between Sony, who mostly embraces unlocking its phones, and Samsung, notorious for keeping its devices locked down. It seemed that, for a time, LG has been appealing to Android power users and modders but apparently that may come at a cost. A few XDA members have noticed how their rooted LG phones were significantly slower than before they rooted. Doing some detective work revealed a certain Root Checker Tool to blame, and it is one that even rooted users can’t easily resolve.

LG V30 might lose its only defining feature, but that’s OK

LG V30 might lose its only defining feature, but that’s OK

Like it's rival Samsung, LG has been releasing two premium smartphones per year. In the distant past, the two were mostly distinguished by their size. But ever since the LG V10 in 2015, the two flagships' differentiating factors practically boiled down to removable batteries and, perhaps more importantly, a second screen on top. According to sources, as well as previous leaks, LG will be ditching both of those with the V30. Depending on how attached you were to that second screen, that might not be much of a deal breaker in the end.

LG bootloop lawsuit now includes G5, V20, Nexus 5X

No smartphone is perfect, but some fail so spectacularly that they get not only some media coverage but even a class action lawsuit. And, no, for the first time, we're not talking about the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. In the federal district Southern California, LG was slapped with a class action lawsuit by disgruntled owners of LG G4 and LG V10 smartphone who were fed up with the company's shoddy craftsmanship and even shoddier customer support. Now that list of devices has grown to include the Nexus 5X, the LG G5, and the LG V20.

LG V20, Huawei Mate 9 tied in DxOMark ranking

LG V20, Huawei Mate 9 tied in DxOMark ranking

Don't worry, Google. The Pixel remains the top dog in DxOMark's list. The LG V20 and Huawei Mate 9, despite their impressive specs and improved performance, don't even come close. Under DxOMark's usual battery of tests, the two scored the exact same 85, differing only in the details. While both sported dual lens cameras, they each interpreted the feature differently. Sadly, neither was able to achieve the pinnacle of mobile photography that itS peers are trying just as hard to grab.

LG V5 leak hints at an odd V-series mid-range phone

LG V5 leak hints at an odd V-series mid-range phone

Both the LG V20 and its predecessor, the V10, were known for quite a few things. They were premium handsets that focused on camera prowess and flaunted a small second screen strip. In typical LG fashion, however, it seems that the company wants to capitalize on its newly successful V brand. Unsurprisingly, there are rumors of a certain LG V5 that might be unveiled soon. Unlike what it does with the “G” series, however, it’s harder to discern where this V model will fall in the grand scheme of things.

Samsung Gear S3, Pay works on LG V20, not on Google Pixel

Last week, Samsung gave Android fans an early Christmas gift. Or rather, it gave them one less reason not to buy its Gear S3 smartwatch for this holiday season. It has made the smartwatch compatible with other Android smartphones outside of its own Galaxy line and, with it, made Samsung Pay also available. Sadly, it seems that not everyone was invited to Samsung’s party, with the Google Pixel, one of the hottest phones this year, left out in the cold. The LG V20 from Samsung’s rival, however, is in.

200,000 LG V20 units sold in the US in just 10 days

Perhaps LG’s return to straightforward functionality is actually paying off. It might be too early to tell, but the company is already boasting of very positive LG V20 numbers within just 10 days of kicking off sales of the smartphone in the US. It claims that around 200,000 units have been sold within that time frame, averaging at 20,000 units per day. While perhaps not the highest on record, it’s definitely twice rate its V10 predecessor enjoyed last year.
