Google Drive updated with Vault, Team Drives, Quick Access and more

Google has added new tools to its online cloud storage service, Drive. Among these new tools, as Google calls them, is the Google Vault for Drive capabilities, giving admins control over files stored within a Drive account. There’s also Team Drives, a way for teams of people to better manage their shared cloud files and their overall team members. Google is also making it easier to find files using machine intelligence-based Quick Access.

Google Drive now offers discounted annual plans

Well that took them long enough. The battle for cloud storage supremacy has somewhat quieted down in recent months (will leave it to the reader to decide who won), so we don't really foresee any major pricing changes, save for the occasional seasonal sale or discount. That said, we're definitely welcoming with open arms any, hopefully permanent, change that will give our wallets, and our minds, a bit of a respite. Like even a 16% or 17% discount when purchasing Google Drive space for a whole year, instead of having to renew every month.

This morning Microsoft Office has released an update with a new Google Drive plugin. This update allows users to use Office for Windows to open Word, Excel, and Powerpoint documents stored in Google Drive on the web, straight from the cloud, edit them, then save them back to Drive (in the cloud) when they're done. This is a strange move from Microsoft* since they've recently called Google out as having inferior technology on the office front. Toyota and Oculus are teaming up to make driving safer — for teens. The joint venture bring a Toyota-branded driving simulator for Toyota’s TeenDrive365 program to the VR headset, which puts those learning to drive behind the wheel of a real car (stationary, of course), but uses VR to immerse them in a driving environment. In being behind the wheel of a real car with virtual distractions and difficult situations, the hope is that teens will be more comfortable behind the wheel when they do venture onto the real road.
