ASUS ZenFone V is another odd Verizon exclusive

ASUS ZenFone V is another odd Verizon exclusive

Verizon has just lost its exclusivity with Motorola’s Droid series and with Sprint’s Essential exclusive as well as AT&T’s BlackBerry KEYone, the carrier might be in need of a new partner. It seems that the new partner is ASUS. After the now practically useless, thanks to Google’s own ARCore, ZenFone AR, Verizon and ASUS have apparently collaborated on a never before seen ZenFone V. And while it might not be the ZenFone 5, it could very well be the ZenFone 3.5.

You can now buy an ASUS ZenFone 4 Max in the US, others to follow

At IFA 2017 earlier this month, ASUS inundated the crowd with not one, not even two, but six ZenFone 4 models to choose from. Fortunately for US consumers, they only need to bother with four of them. At least for now. ASUS has formally announced the launch of its new ZenFone 4 line of smartphones, but it happily isn't dumping them all at the same time. It is starting off with the ZenFone 4 Max today, with the rest of the fleet to follow in the next quarter.

ASUS ZenFone AR Tango Phone Review

ASUS ZenFone AR Tango Phone Review

This is SlashGear's ASUS ZenFone AR Review - complete with Google Tango onboard. This is a review of both the device and the AR - reviewed together and separately. While the device's full worth does take Tango into account, we've also considered the idea that a consumer might not end up using the AR features here as often as they thought they might. With a fine software build and hardware that's quite top-notch, it wasn't difficult to look beyond the hype.

ZenFone 3 will eventually get Android O but you don’t have to wait

ASUS’ launch of the ZenFone 4 series just a week before Google is expected to launch Android 8.0 “O” has naturally brought questions of updates. While it is definitely expected that the ZenFone 4 will get Android O, the same can’t be said for last year’s ZenFone 3 line. In its press conference, ASUS assured fans that ZenFone 3 will not only be upgraded to Android O but will also get the its new ZenUI 4.0. There still, however, is the question of when. Fortunately, you don’t have to wait for ASUS to get its act together. ASUS ZenFone AR pre-order starts, Verizon only

While Google and friends were taking their sweet time, Apple opened the floodgates when it released ARKit. It revealed the nifty things that can be created and experienced with nothing but a smartphone, the very same premise behind Google Tango and Daydream. While these two technologies existed for quite a while, they existed in different worlds. Those worlds are finally colliding in the ASUS ZenFone AR, which can finally be yours. ASUS ZenFone 4 Max heralds 2017 flagship series

ASUS ZenFone 4 Max heralds 2017 flagship series

Almost all major Android smartphone makers have already revealed their 2017 cards, save for Motorola and ASUS. No, the ZenFone AR doesn't really count. ASUS has yet to announce its ZenFone 4 flagship but, while bidding its time, it already sent out its herald to prepare the way. This is when the ASUS ZenFone AR will be available in the US

It's not unusual for smartphones to launch a few months after they've been announced, but a six-month waiting time is next to ridiculous. But that is exactly what ASUS is doing with the ZenFone AR, which has yet to see the light of day in the market. Announced at CES back in January, ASUS CEO Jerry Shen has revealed that it's going to take about a month more before this AR/VR smartphone lands in Verizon's shops in the US.

Verizon Zenfone AR release could bring Tango mainstream

Verizon Zenfone AR release could bring Tango mainstream

The first ASUS-made Google Tango smartphone, Zenfone AR, will be released this summer with Verizon. Yesterday we were told by Google that the device was going to be made available this summer - which wasn't a major surprise. There's already one Lenovo-made Tango device out on the market and it's done predictably OK for sales - with relatively low amounts of units sold. With no carriers in the USA to show it off, it was doomed to do no better than mediocre - for the Zenfone AR, that might not end up happening.

ASUS ZenFone AR hands-on: Google Tango sells us a BMW

ASUS ZenFone AR hands-on: Google Tango sells us a BMW

ASUS launched the ZenFone AR back at CES in January, but the Project Tango phone wasn't quite ready for its augmented reality close-up. Turns out, there are some ZenFone AR handsets floating around at MWC 2017 this week, not least being used by the team at BMW and Accenture for their iVisualizer demo. Imagine our surprise when the ASUS handset was whipped out - alongside the existing Lenovo Phab 2 Pro - for us to check out on video.

ASUS ZenFone AR hands-on: Daydream and Tango under one roof

ASUS ZenFone AR hands-on: Daydream and Tango under one roof

The ZenFone 3 Zoom wasn't the only phone ASUS brought to CES, introducing us to the ZenFone AR as well. Of course, we had a feeling that such a phone would get a reveal thanks to an early leak from Qualcomm, but at this point, that's neither here nor there. The ZenFone AR has been made official, and it packs support for Google Tango and Daydream into the same device.

Tango capable ZenFone AR leaked ahead of CES reveal in Qualcomm slip up

CES is an exciting time, but sometimes companies get a little too excited and spill the beans on a new product before it's ready. Such is the case with the ASUS ZenFone AR, which was "leaked" in a sense by a Qualcomm blog post. The ZenFone AR will be the second Google Tango phone to hit the scene, following on the heels of Lenovo's Phab 2 Pro.
