OnePlus 5T’s “T” could stand for “tough”

OnePlus 5T’s “T” could stand for “tough”

There are a couple of design trends going on in the smartphone market these days. One is the 18:9 screen aspect ration, the other is the switch back to glass backs. Ever the contrarian, upstart OnePlus is saying no, at least to one of those. With the OnePlus 5T, it has jumped on the 18:9 bandwagon, while still retaining the Full HD, FHD+ actually, resolution. It isn’t, however, joining the glass sandwich party just yet, which is probably for the best, as JerryRigEverything finds out.

OnePlus 5 will soon be discontinued

OnePlus 5 will soon be discontinued

OnePlus has done it again. It has brought out a flagship device at half the flagship price. And it has also ruffled the feathers or some of its own loyal fans. Although the gap between the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T is now just a wee bit longer than the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, so is the gap between features. And with the news of OnePlus unsurprisingly phasing out the OnePlus 5, buyers of the early 2017 flagship are naturally left wondering whether they have just waited a few more months after all.

As the OnePlus 5T is released worldwide, we've discussed the lifecycle of each OnePlus device - and the software updates therein. Upon setting out the entirety of OnePlus' short company history, it's clear that this is no ordinary brand. Updates come quicker in some areas, and not at all in others - this is no Apple, that's for sure.

Even OnePlus knows the OnePlus 5T’s face unlock isn’t as secure as iPhone X

The OnePlus 5T was announced earlier today, and just like another certain flagship device, it'll have users unlocking their phones with facial recognition. This seems to be the direction the industry is headed, and so far, the iPhone X gives us our best example of the technology through Face ID. Though the OnePlus 5T also uses facial recognition as a marquee feature, it seems that its creators know that it won't be as accurate as it needs to be before it's the only option for verification.

OnePlus 5T vs 5: specs, pricing, release dates

This morning we saw the OnePlus 5T for the first time, and now we're comparing the device to its nearest predecessor. The OnePlus 5T is meant to be a half-step between this past generation and the next, with a T to signify the change. As OnePlus suggested onstage today, the letter "T" is in place because Apple uses an "S" for their half-step phones every other year.

OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition leaked

OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition leaked

A tip was sent this morning on the appearance of a OnePlus 5T with a special edition on its name. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a month away at this point, and Lucasfilm hasn't been stingy with access to their licensing rights for products of all sorts. OnePlus has been known to release special limited edition versions of their smartphones, too - remember the Colette OnPlus 3T, and the midnight black edition 3T, and the OnePlus 5 JCC+ release earlier this year.

OnePlus backdoor update: This was no secret

OnePlus backdoor update: This was no secret

There's an update on the latest nonsense within OnePlus smartphones with regard to end-user personal privacy. This week OnePlus devices were discovered to have a relatively simple way to root and gain access with a simple APK. This APK was called EngineerMode, and it in itself is not all that uncommon. In fact, there's a distinct possibility that your device - regardless of brand - has an EngineerMode within it. The difference with the OnePlus app - in at least the OnePlus 3, 3T, and 5 - is that this app can relatively easily root the device - which, as we know, offers the user any access they like.

OnePlus 5T leaked in full on Reddit and Twitter

OnePlus 5T leaks today seem to have spilled all the beans - specs, photos, and the whole lot. This next-gen smartphone seems to be similar to its predecessor without being nearly as much of a 1:1 comparable device as the 3T was to the 3. Here, OnePlus seems to have given the device the boost it needs not just on the inside, but in its display and around the edges, as well.
