What is the Metaverse and How Does it Work?

Wondering what the Metaverse is? Chances are you've already been there. There is no one perfect description for the concept, but in general, we're talking about digital interaction and human decision making in a few key ways. The term "Metaverse" comes from the Neal Stephenson science fiction novel Snow Crash, released in 1992 - but it's come to mean so much more since then.

Steam Deck won’t flop like Steam Machines

Steam Deck won’t flop like Steam Machines

PC gamers might have felt a tad disappointed at the news that Valve is delaying its Steam Deck portable PC gaming machine to sometime in 2022. Of course, that wasn't exactly surprising given how other consumer electronics, especially computers and mobile devices, are facing production and shipment delays, but it still douses some cold water over the enthusiasm that has been building up towards the upcoming shopping and gaming seasons. Almost ironically, that can also serve to get gamers excited even more, especially after Valve continues to reveal some details that inspire confidence that the Steam Deck will not be a repeat of the ill-fated Steam Machine.

Nintendo Switch reclaims top-seller crown from PS5

Earlier this year, the PlayStation 5 managed to net itself a big win, with NPD Group reporting that it was the best-selling console for the month of September. This broke a 33-month streak in which the Nintendo Switch finished on top, probably making that first-place even sweeter for Sony. Unfortunately, PS5 was only king for a short time, as the Switch made it's way back to the top of NPD's rankings for October.

Twitch made a surprise appearance on the Nintendo Switch eShop this week, becoming one of the few media apps available on the platform. The addition of Twitch continues this slow, seemingly random drip release of media apps for the Switch that we've seen since launch. Unfortunately, there are a large number of media apps that could be on the Switch but aren't - a fact that's brought back to the forefront whenever a new media app makes its way to the eShop.

With long periods of silence from Rockstar, it's been difficult to figure out just what is happening - or when the trilogy will return.

First Playdate shipments delayed, but for a good reason

First Playdate shipments delayed, but for a good reason

It seems that the hardware delays just keep on coming. In a week where we've learned that Valve's Steam Deck has been delayed and that Sony possibly had to cut PS5 production estimates because of the global parts shortage, we're now learning that the initial orders for Panic's Playdate handheld have also been delayed. There is a silver lining to this one, though, so at least in the end, it isn't all bad news.

PS5 restock bad news as Sony makes a tough call

PS5 restock bad news as Sony makes a tough call

It's not a secret that the PlayStation 5 is an in-demand console. Nearly a year out from release, PlayStation 5 stock is still sparse to the point where restocks are highly contested events; mad scrambles where available stock is snatched up in minutes. There's a global silicon shortage at the center of these stock issues, and while we've known that things probably won't get better for a long time yet, today we're learning of the direct impact the shortage is having on PS5 production.
