Huawei, Honor cheated benchmarks and this is their reason

Huawei, Honor cheated benchmarks and this is their reason

Thought the whole benchmark cheating scandal was behind us? Apparently not. Some OEMs have just gotten better at hiding it. Or at least that’s the picture that Huawei is painting after it was caught red-handed using a benchmark detection feature. But unlike other manufacturers in the past, it didn’t deny the allegation but instead tried to justify why it was doing so. Bottom line: its competitors are doing it anyway and trying to cheat it out of the market.

Huawei Kirin 980 revealed: World’s first 7nm SoC is headed to new phones

Huawei Kirin 980 revealed: World’s first 7nm SoC is headed to new phones

Just a short while ago, Huawei hosted a keynote address at IFA 2018 centered around mobile AI. During this keynote, it made a pretty big announcement by revealing the Kirin 980 system on a chip (SoC). Huawei bills this as the first commercial SoC built on TSMC's 7nm process, and because of that design, it should bring some big boosts to performance and efficiency with it.

Kirin 980 on Huawei Mate 20 to be world’s first 7nm chip

Although the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has yet to ship to owners, Huawei is already making sure that consumers know that this is no upgrade. It is trying to play on the phablet’s lack of fancy new features, like triple cameras or a new processor. A ground-breaking upgrade is still coming, it implies, and it won’t take a rocket scientist to conclude that it’s talking about the upcoming Huawei Mate 20. While it probably won’t add a fourth camera to its back, Huawei is going to put the focus, no pun intended, on the Kirin 980, which it will boast to be a world’s first system-on-chip.

That caught my attention right out the gate. It would seem that Huawei's Honor brand is coming directly for the market that OnePlus just left behind.

Huawei, Google made an Android dev board ala Raspberry Pi

Although still primarily associated with smartphones and, sometimes, tablets, Android has long outgrown that limited device category. It can now be found on smartwatches, TVs, PCs, laptops, cars, and, soon, household appliances. This means that the budding Android developer might want to be able to develop apps that aren't constrained to one type of hardware. They will need a reference development hardware. That hardware has now arrived in the form of the HiKey 960, a Raspberry Pi-like board developed, surprisingly, by Huawei, with some help and approval from Google.
