Poco Launcher app now up for download, MIUI Android style

There's a new launcher in town, and it comes from one of the most inexpensive phones in the world. Xiaomi launched the brand Poco this year to bring about some competition in the mid-range smartphone space. More specifically they wanted to bring heat to India, where OnePlus currently dominates. With the Poco Launcher, you can see what sort of Android software experience this Poco is really serving up.

Snapchat leaked on Github: What’s that mean for you?

Snapchat leaked on Github: What’s that mean for you?

This week some Snapchat source code - not ALL the code, but some - leaked and appeared on Github. That means more than a couple people had access to said source code - or fragment of source code - for a little while. Certainly long enough to download and keep for one's very own. Mercifully it does not appear that the source code leaked was too particularly important for the privacy of end users.

Fortnite on Android APK download out now but there’s a catch

Users can download a leaked version of the Android Fortnite app already, but there's a bit of a catch. The app that's out in the wild right now doesn't work on any device that's currently available for sale. Down in the deep recesses of the app's soul you'll find code which suggests only two devices are currently able to play it: the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 - that new tablet we saw first detailed last week.

YouTube GO: You’re not allowed to use it

This week we're seeing the first non-Beta version of YouTube GO, an app that allows downloads of YouTube videos. This is not the only official app that allows video downloads - that distinction also belongs to the subscription payment service YouTube Red, as well. This app is the only free official YouTube video downloader from Google - but there's another catch or three.

OnePlus backdoor update: This was no secret

OnePlus backdoor update: This was no secret

There's an update on the latest nonsense within OnePlus smartphones with regard to end-user personal privacy. This week OnePlus devices were discovered to have a relatively simple way to root and gain access with a simple APK. This APK was called EngineerMode, and it in itself is not all that uncommon. In fact, there's a distinct possibility that your device - regardless of brand - has an EngineerMode within it. The difference with the OnePlus app - in at least the OnePlus 3, 3T, and 5 - is that this app can relatively easily root the device - which, as we know, offers the user any access they like.
