Yellow Jacket is here at CES 2014 showing their latest stun case for the iPhone 5/5S. Their previous iPhone case was for the 4. Specific iPhone models aside though, what we have here is a case with a built-in stun gun that is capable of delivering 18,000 volts. Naturally, this sort of device just had to be seen in person.
Toyota has been showing the i-Road three-wheel electric concept vehicle here at CES 2014. This may be the first time many have seen this concept, however it was actually introduced nearly a year earlier at the Geneva Auto Show in Tokyo, where SlashGear was first allowed to get behind the wheel. While it may only be a concept today, and one that's highly unlikely to make it to the US market, the technology and overall setup are still more than interesting as a leaning, all-EV approach to urban mobility. It seems to be a known bit that smartphones are growing in size. Then there are the phablets, and at some point these larger devices should simply be called a tablet. Generally, anything from 7-inches and above falls in the tablet space with the phablets falling in the middle of tablets and smartphones. But that being said, Hisense has gone against that trend and unveiled a 6.8-inch smartphone.
Modular smartphone setups are still not something that would be considered mainstream by any means, but they do seem to be a setup that we are hearing more and more about. There has been chatter from Phonebloks as well as from Motorola with Project Ara. And more recently, we spotted the ZTE Eco-Mobius while walking the show floor here at CES.
LG has unveiled the Chromebase, an all-in-one system sporting a 21.5-inch Full HD display and running Chrome OS. LG points towards this as being a world's first type of device, but more to the point, this should provide a solid option for someone who is looking to run Chrome OS, but wants to avoid a notebook. The LG Chromebase is available in black and a multi-color white and silver option.
ZTE unveiled a full range devices during the show, including their first phablet and their entry in the the wearable space. Those were the Iconic Phablet and the BlueWatch. Along with those devices were a few smartphones, including the follow-up to the Grand S, appropriately dubbed the Grand S II. Similar to the other devices unveiled here, the release date and price for the Grand S II are still up in the air.
ZTE is showing their entry into the wearable space here at CES 2014. This is the ZTE BlueWatch and as one would assume based on the name, this is a smartwatch. We also couldn't help see quite few similarities with another smartwatch -- the Pebble. Device support includes Android and the display measures in at 1.26-inches with a resolution of 144 x 168.
ZTE has jumped into the phablet space. The device, teased just ahead of CES and shown off during the show is called the Iconic Phablet. This is a 5.7-inch device powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Some of the remaining specs includes 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
Along with showing the Solemate Max wireless speaker, Jabra has also been showing the Rox wireless headset, which brings the quality one would expect, but also some nice features. These have Dolby Digital Plus sound and are touted as being built with solid steel and able to offer a secure fit.
Jabra has the Solemate and the Solemate Mini, and as we learned back in October, they had plans to add a third model. This latest goes one step larger and is the Solemate Max. Essentially, Jabra rounded out the collection with a bigger model. Aside from the growth in size though, the key features are the same across the board.
Sometimes it can be the simpler items that make an impression, and that happens to be the case with the i-FlashDrive. This is a small flash drive that has a variety of connectivity options. Or put simpler, this flash drive connects with Android and iOS and even allows users to swap files between the drive itself, or the phone or tablet.
With no shortage of fitness gadgets already on the market, the category seems to still be growing every day. These new arrivals come from both new companies and also from existing companies pushing new products. This time around we are looking at LifeTrak, which just so happens to be the latter, an existing company pushing out a new product.
