Land Rover software bug causes doors to open on their own

Land Rover software bug causes doors to open on their own

You're driving along and all is well until you turn and your door swings open -- a door you're sure was firmly shut when you got in the car. Such is a potential problem some Range Rover owners are facing due to a software bug that may cause the doors unlatch on their own. A door opening without warning could distract the driver and cause a wreck, could result in property damage, or could on the extreme end of things cause a passenger who isn't wearing a seat belt to fall out of the vehicle.

Jaguar: customers aren’t cargo, won’t make self-driving cars

Jaguar: customers aren’t cargo, won’t make self-driving cars

While some car makers are scrambling to make cars smarter, perhaps even to the point of being able to drive themselves, at least one is putting hard limits to what technology will be able to do. At least according to its R&D head. Wolfgang Epple, Jaguar Land Rover's research and development chief, might come off as anti-robot, but his reasoning pretty much appeals to human emotion. The company doesn't consider its customers as cargo so they aren't interested in developing a robot that just delivers them from one point to another.

Jaguar uses brain wave monitoring to keep drivers alert

Jaguar uses brain wave monitoring to keep drivers alert

Auto manufacturers are getting smarter all the time. Jaguar Land Rover has just created a car that can read your mind. The car won't psychically take you to your destination, but it will hold your attention. The prototype feature, dubbed Mind Sense, measures brainwaves to monitor the driver's concentration. It was developed as a safety technology research project, which has the overall goal of decreasing accidents on the road. Drivers whose concentration fades due to stress or distraction pose a real threat to others on the road. It doesn't matter if a driver's eyes are on the road, it just takes a daydream to keep him out of touch with surroundings--only to be yanked back by a car horn or an accident. Jaguar's Mind Sense project found a way to tell whether the driver is paying attention or not based on his brain wave patterns.

Land Rover develops tech to warn you and the city about potholes

Land Rover has just unveiled its new technology that aims to not only help drivers avoid hitting potholes in the road, but help get them fixed. Sensors on a vehicle detect when it drives over a pothole, recording it with GPS location data, and then sending it to local road authorities who will hopefully go out and fix them, as well as other vehicles. The system can also recognize broken manhole covers, and other cars receiving the messages can warn their drivers in advance.

2015 Land Rovers recalled over faulty lug nuts

Land Rover is recalling a relatively small number of its newest vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has revealed. The reason differs from the various other auto recalls we've seen so far this year, and concerns the lug nuts (which, of course, keep the wheel on the car). Says Jaguar, the lug nuts on select recently manufactured 2015 Land Rovers could crack and come apart from the bolt, the result of which could cause the wheel to detach and the car to crash.
