Alexa just got support for several video apps on Amazon Fire TV, including Sony's PlayStation Vue, Hulu, CBS, NBC, Showtime, and Bravo. With this support, Fire TV owners can ask Alexa to do things on their behalf, no Echo device necessary. If you have a newer Fire TV device that includes the Alexa Voice Remote, you can do all of this just by pressing the microphone button on that remote control.

The launch of the PS4 Pro, and before that the launch of the PS VR, will have most likely grabbed most of the attention as far as Sony’s entertainment products go. PlayStation Vue lost Viacom channels: 3 other ways to stream those shows

Earlier this week, Sony made a relatively quiet announcement: all of its Viacom channels would be disappearing from PlayStation Vue starting November 11. Subscribers still saw the channels in their guide when that date rolled around, but the show info was blank and you couldn't select them. Starting Saturday, subscribers were greeted with an on-screen message informing them about the channel removals, and many people are less than happy. Fortunately, there are some alternatives for streaming those now-missing shows.

You don't need the Ultra plan in order to subscribe to the HBO and Cinemax offerings.

The announcement coincides with another one — HBO Now will soon be available on both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4, giving those with a standalone HBO Now subscription — regardless of whether they have Vue — the ability to watch shows through it on their PS console. The HBO Now support, of course, won’t cost anything.

PlayStation Vue: the downsides

PlayStation Vue: the downsides

I've previously reviewed Sony's livestreaming television service PlayStation Vue, and as I said at the time, it's largely a great service. I still use Vue and still enjoy it, but as with all things in life, there are some aspects I'm not terribly fond of and they tend to surface over time. That's not to say any of them are deal breakers, not personally, anyway. But there are some downsides that may be more than an annoyance for some prospective subscribers, and it's best to know about them ahead of time.
