As has been expected for the last few weeks, Apple today announced the addition of a 21.5-inch Retina iMac to its desktop lineup, offering a 4K display and a starting price of $1,499. Along with this new model, the 27-inch lineup of iMac now all feature 5K Retina displays. As for the new 21.5-inch model, the desktop offers a resolution that is 4.5 times that of Full HD, and the same pixel density as the 5K model.

Apple's collection of new devices may continue to expand as early as next week, this time with a 21.5-inch iMac. This iMac would have a 4K display - that's 4096 x 2304 pixels - the same as spotted in El Capitan developer beta codes earlier this year. This new iMac would sit beside the 27-inch 5K iMac already in stores, while previous 21.5-inch iMacs with 1920 x 1080 resolution display would be phased out entirely. It seems that Apple is really dreaming it big this year. Aside from the big iPad Pro expected to be revealed in little less than a week, Apple is now also said to be preparing a refresh to the smaller 21.5-inch iMac that bumps up the resolution to 4K, matching the same huge leap that the larger iMac made to 5K resolution. New Apple accessories for desktop computers appear in FCC listings, likely headed for release later this Summer. Today we're seeing two wireless devices, on Apple mouse, the other an Apple wireless keyboard. The keyboard has not had a refresh since 2011 while the mouse (also known as the Magic Mouse) has not had a refresh since the year 2009. It's about time for that to happen. Inside these devices is no longer the Bluetooth 2.1 (BCM2042 inside) they originally came packed with, but Bluetooth 4.2 with Bluetooth LE Low Energy.

Apple is gearing up to released a refreshed iMac lineup before the end of this quarter, according to KGI Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo, the industry analyst with easily the best track record when it comes to predicting Apple's plans. Among the improvements of the new iMacs are said to be more powerful processors, along with better display technology, although it's not clear if that includes a new Retina display option for the smaller size 21.5-inch iMac.

Inside the newest build of OS X El Capitan comes mention of Apple's newest desktop device, one with a 21.5-inch 4K display. While we can't be 100% certain this is a display aimed at a new iMac, Apple's desktop and laptop lineup do leave room right this moment for just such a device. This would make way for the current 21.5-inch iMac to be retired while a new version with 4096 x 2304 pixels to come through. Apple has identified a problem in the hard drives of specific older iMacs. 3TB hard drives for 27-inch Macs that were sold between December 2012 and September 2013 could "fail under certain conditions". Mac users affected by the problem are eligible for a special replacement program where the faulty hard drive will be switched out for free. This isn't the first time iMacs have had this kind of problem. In 2011 Apple replaced faulty HDD's from the manufacturer, Seagate.

Just as was predicted yesterday, Apple has just released updated models of the 15-inch MacBook Pro and the 27-inch iMac, with available to order online and in-store as of today. The rumors that were reported on turned out to be pretty accurate, as both computer received the upgrades that were expected. Namely, the 15-inch MacBook Pro now comes with a Force Touch trackpad, and the Retina 5K iMac has received a lower price, which turned out to be better than expected.

If you were hoping for Apple to announce a refreshed 15-inch MacBook Pro or 27-inch iMac at this year's WWDC, your wishes may be coming true, and even sooner than expected. A new report from the fairly reliable French website MacGeneration says that this Wednesday will the release of those two computer models updated with Intel's newest Broadwell processors. The timing plausible, especially for the MacBook Pro, as shipments of the 15-inch model have been dwindling for several weeks now, and the 13-inch model was updated back in March.

LG has potentially dropped itself in a tank-load of hot water, mistakenly putting words in Apple's mouth and claiming an 8K iMac launch has been confirmed for 2015. The goof comes as part of LG's pre-hyping for 8K UHD resolution - a whopping 7,680 x 4,320 - which it expects to succeed 4K resolution over the next few years, though so far only a single panel has been shown off publicly. So far, so good, but LG then goes on to assert that Apple has already committed to an iMac upgrade with an 8K panel sometime this year.
