2019 Mustang Shelby GT500 was Ford’s one more thing at NAIAS

Company’s today have learned from the showmanship of the late Steve Jobs in ending a presentation with a punch. That has become true even for car shows. At the Detroit Auto Show, also known by its longer name, the North American International Auto Show, Ford already had a few cars to reveal. It may, however, just saved the best for last. No actual car was shown, of course, but Ford did show off a video revealing the upcoming Mustang Shelby GT500, poised to breach the 200 mph barrier next year.

Corresponding with the Pebble Beach rare and exotic car show this weekend, the Sotheby's auction house fetched not one but two record-setting prices for British and American cars. The vehicles were a 1955 Jaguar D-Type that won the historic Le Mans race in 1956, and the very first Shelby Cobra, made in 1962, which was owned by founder Carroll Shelby until his death in 2012.

Shelby American has taken the wraps off its new Baja 700, a limited edition Raptor that brings with it an incredible amount of power while remaining street-legal. Ford has revealed its new GT, an all-new carbon fiber supercar set to push the limits of its EcoBoost turbo technology, and set to go into production in 2016. The new coupé, revealed at the Detroit Auto Show alongside the 2017 F-150 Raptor today, has the most powerful EcoBoost turbocharged engine Ford has ever produced, a twin-charged 3.6-liter V6 good for more than 600 horsepower.
