Microsoft pulls Google and Facebook chat from Outlook

If you logged into your Outlook account today, you were likely greeted with a message bearing grave news (or mention of a feature you didn't even realize was available): Facebook and Google chat are going away. Until now, Outlook users were able to tie in their other accounts and chat with contacts on both of those aforementioned services -- something that was incredibly convenient and oft requested. All of it is set to fizzle away in the next few weeks, however, and Microsoft isn't being 100-percent clear about why.

8 robust chat alternatives to WhatsApp

Texting has become little more than a quick way to fire a simple message off to someone you’ve only a casual acquaintance with, or those few holdouts still using dumb phones. Facebook testing voice chat transcription in Messenger

Chat is a big feature for many Facebook users -- the only feature some of them use at this point -- and so it always nice to see when a new feature is on the horizon. In the past, the social network introduced a feature that allows users to send their friends voice clips through Messenger in much the same way one can in WhatsApp, and it is convenient to be able to speak a message quickly. Those on the receiving end, however, might find listening to that message terribly inconvenient when in public.

Rooms v. Room: Facebook accused of stealing

Rooms v. Room: Facebook accused of stealing

Have you tried Facebook’s latest app, ‘Rooms’? There seems to be a bit of turmoil about it, as a competing app claims Facebook pinched quite a bit of what Rooms is from their app, the similarly named Room. The team behind Room claims they weren’t working with Facebook, either, suggesting Facebook possibly heard about Room via a third-party, like a Venture Capital firm. However Rooms came to resemble Room, their CTO and Co-founder is none too pleased, and is suggesting his company may take legal action.

BitTorrent Bleep “bleeps out” your chats from prying eyes

BitTorrent, the company, will perhaps forever be remembered for creating bittorrent, the file sharing protocol.
