These are Apple's 5 newest proposed emoji

Do you ever find yourself wishing you could express your dreams of one becoming an astronaut, judge, or pilot in emoji? Well, with Apple's latest recommendations to the Unicode Consortium, you should soon be able to. The company continues to show its influence over the emoji standard with a recent suggestion for five new job profession-related characters, each with men and women versions.

The new emoji consist of an artist/painter, astronaut, firefighter, courtroom judge, and an airplane pilot. Apple made its suggestion to the Unicode Consortium, the non-profit organization that oversees emoji standardization, in August, following several other changes and proposals by Google and Microsoft in recent months, including new professions and women variants of existing characters.

A batch of 72 new emoji was already approved by Unicode earlier this year, and will be coming to the different mobile platforms in the coming months, including Apple's iOS 10. It's not clear yet if Unicode has approved these 5 new submissions, but if they do, they'll likely appear in next year's update to the standard.

Along with Google and Microsoft, Apple is a voting member of the Unicode Consortium, and one with strong influence. Back in June it was revealed that a push from Apple resulted in the rifle being dropped as a considered emoji in 2015. Similarly, iOS 10 sees the depiction of the handgun emoji turned into a toy water gun, whereas Microsoft and Google continue to opt for more realistic images of revolvers.
