If you believe the hype, then Sony will be revealing the next PlayStation in just a few short weeks at a February 20 event. The announcement of a new console is all well and good, but once the party's over and the reveal has been made, Sony then faces the difficult task of making the next PlayStation successful in the new generation. It's something of a blank slate - the other competitors in the console space are releasing new machines as well, so the platform wars can begin anew. Sony did a lot of good things with the PS3, but in order to make the PS4 a smashing success, it's going to need to ramp it up in a few areas.

Heads up, PlayStation fans. Sony filed an interesting patent last year and it has just been made public today. The patent is for a hybrid DualShock/Move gaming controller, meaning that you could use it as a normal controller just like any of Sony's other DualShock devices, or you could split it apart to make two Move controllers.

Sony's new Wonderbook project has left some scratching their heads, but if you're a Harry Potter fan, you may be pleased to know that the first game in the Wonderbook series will launch on November 13. That first game is dubbed Wonderbook: Book of Spells, and in it, players will use the augmented reality capabilities of the PlayStation Move and Eye to learn about and cast spells from the Harry Potter series, including Incendio, Wingardium Leviosa, and Harry's own signature spell, Expelliarmus. Dark wizards should probably look elsewhere, as we doubt the family-friendly nature of Wonderbook: Book of Spells will allow for incantations such as Crucio and Avada Kedavra.

We often talk about patents here at SlashGear, but rarely do we get patent filings as strange (or as silly) as this one. GameNMotion has uncovered a Sony-filed patent for "converting television commercials into interactive networked video games," and along with it comes a number of interesting applications. The patent seems to center around the PlayStation family of devices - PlayStation 3, PlayStation Move, PS Eye, and a microphone to be specific - more than it does the actual television, with these commercials making use of Sony's gaming peripherals to become interactive mini-games.

Motion-controlled gaming does function pretty well in many applications, but one area where it leads to nothing but confusion and frustration is in racing games. People hated Microsoft's Kinect-powered hands-free racing mini-games, Nintendo's Mario Kart on Wii only works well if you have a Wii Remote wheel attachment, and now Sony is going down that same path.

Sony has revealed plans to launch Okami HD on the PS3, complete with PlayStation Move controller support for flaunting your sumi-e ink brushes. The game - which first launched on the PS2 back in 2006 - sets the player as Japanese sun goddess Amaterasu, roaming wastelands and converting them back to color, now freshly updated with high-definition graphics.

Sony has taken to the PlayStation blog to unveil the Move Racing Wheel controller, designed for driving games like Little Big Planet Karting and Gran Turismo. The Move slots into the middle of the controller, providing handle grips on the side along with the typical PlayStation controller buttons.

This week the folks at Sony have revealed the first of many titles for a device called the Wonderbook - an accessory that works with the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Move. This device is a blank book which, with the PlayStation Move controller, comes to life as you view yourself in the camera on your screen. Basically you'll have your PlayStation making your television a reflection of you with this book, but this book is then brought to life with augmented reality.

With all the holiday feasting and gatherings coming up, the bundles will be arriving at a good time, packing in PlayStation Move accessories and titles that will get you dancing or playing sports in your living room to burn off all those excess calories.

It's offering the Special Edition game on its own as well as in a bundle that includes the Move add-on and controllers. As announced back at E3 2011, we should be seeing many other popular titles get Move support as well.

The special holiday bundles that Sony is preparing have leaked thanks to images of the printed packaging shot by Scream777, who claims to work at Sony's packaging facility. The shots were then posted by SlickDeals and includes both special edition game titles as well as complete gaming bundles for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Move. The deals should hit store shelves in time for Thanksgiving's Black Friday sale.

Ever since we first heard of systems like the Wii and the Xbox 360 Kinect, we though gosh, that'd be awesome to utilize for exercise games. Imagine that, this is exactly what happened. But here's the thing: development is slow if you compare the exercise game ecosystem with games of basically every other type. There's been some games for the Wii Balance Board, the Wii Fit has seen some action, but what about Xbox 360's Kinect? How about the PlayStation Move? Is it just that gamers simply do not want to use their gaming systems to do work? Zumba Fitness isn't the first game in history to make dancing and therefore exercise an enjoyable activity, but it's certainly the most interesting to your humble narrator's eyes in the past few weeks, that's for sure.
