Monster Hunter Rise and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin head to Switch next year

While the reveal of Ori and the Will of the Wisps during today's Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase was certainly surprising, it wasn't the only big announcement we saw. Nintendo actually led the show with the reveal of two new Monster Hunter games: Monster Hunter Rise, which is more in line with the traditional Monster Hunter experience, and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, a story-based RPG. Both titles are coming to Nintendo Switch next year.

Nintendo's latest Direct Mini: Partner Showcase ended with quite the announcement today, with Moon Studios and Microsoft confirming that Ori and the Will of the Wisps is coming to Nintendo Switch. The first Ori game, Ori and the Blind Forest, came to Switch in 2019, and with Ori and the Will of the Wisps launching earlier this year for Xbox One and PC, there was some question as to whether or not we'd see it come to Switch as well.

Nintendo has announced a new smattering of SNES and NES games that will soon be heading to Switch Online. Chief among these fresh arrivals is Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest. Nintendo announced today that Hyrule Warriors is getting a sequel, more than six years after it initially launched for Wii U and three years after it was ported to Switch. Dubbed Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, this new game takes place 100 years before the events of Breath of the Wild. While this probably isn't what fans were expecting out of a Breath of the Wild prequel given the vast differences in gameplay between the two, it will give us a look into the Great Calamity that turned Hyrule Castle and the surrounding area into a wasteland.
