Foldable Google Pixel phone is still on the table

Foldable Google Pixel phone is still on the table

Google is a company that arguably makes great software and services but its track record in hardware leaves much to be desired. That doesn't stop it from trying, though, as evidenced by both its Pixel phones as well as its smart speakers and displays, now under the Nest brand. In fact, it often dreams big, like Google Glass or even Google Wing, now both defunct projects, as it experiments with different devices and experiences revolving around its core businesses. Apparently, that also includes a foldable Pixel phone that may still happen at some undetermined point in the future.

Samsung speaks on plastic Note 20, Fold 2 S Pen and Android update promise

Samsung had a busy day, what with two new smartphones, a foldable phone, two tablets, a pair of earbuds, and a smartwatch, but as is often the case it's the little details that warrant the most scrutiny. Whether it's how long you can expect fresh Android for your old Galaxy, what sort of materials are warranted on a thousand-dollar Note 20, or why a fan-favorite feature is missing on the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Samsung had a mix of answers and evasions.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 official: Foldable refined

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 official: Foldable refined

Samsung has a new foldable Android phone, and it thinks you're really, really going to be convinced by the Galaxy Z Fold 2. If the original Fold felt like a prototype-made-real - complete with rough edges - then the Galaxy Z Fold 2 feels ready, maybe not for mass-market primetime, but certainly more in keeping with what you'd expect from its $2k price tag.

LG foldable and rollable screens are on display this week

LG foldable and rollable screens are on display this week

Samsung may have the lion's share of attention when it comes to its foldable screen in the Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Flip but it is hardly the only display company playing around with the screens of the future. Although it hasn't launched any commercial product yet, LG has long been showing off its flexible screens that even go beyond simple folding or even bending. At this year's online version of the Society for Information Display conference, LG will be showcasing no less than four such applications in its "Unlimited Design Freedom Zone" that might make you wish you could actually be there.

Galaxy Z Fold 2 won’t be changing this one important thing

Galaxy Z Fold 2 won’t be changing this one important thing

We're barely a week away from Samsung's big event that will dump no less than five devices, not counting their variants. Of course, almost everything about those has already been leaked by this time but we're still waiting for one important detail: price. Of the five, we're of course expecting Samsung's third foldable phone to take the crown and a new tip confirms exactly that but in a way you might not have expected.

Galaxy Z Fold 2 sighting confirms some details

Galaxy Z Fold 2 sighting confirms some details

Given it barely has any secrets left to tell, Samsung gave not so subtle hints at what its August 5 Unpacked will reveal. One of those, of course, is its next foldable phone, which should have been the Galaxy Fold 2. It's still the Galaxy Fold 2, at least in spirit, but Samsung has apparently decided to adopt a new naming scheme. That new name, which is both different yet also the same, has been confirmed by what is allegedly the first-ever hands-on photo of the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G revealed: Availability, price, and trade-in details

Consumers have been anticipating the arrival of the Galaxy Z Flip 5G variant for quite a while now -- the 4G version was announced earlier this year, but until now, we haven't had word on when the 5G version would arrive. That has finally changed, with Samsung formally launching the Galaxy Z Flip 5G model and revealing the availability and pricing details.

Galaxy Z Flip 5G might be out this week

Galaxy Z Flip 5G might be out this week

Samsung's own mobile head confirmed no less than five new phones debuting next month but that list didn't include one that has been rumored in the past. The 5G variant of the 4G Galaxy Z Flip launched earlier this year may not be big enough to even share a spot on Samsung's online stage in two weeks. Not only that, it may not even share the same schedule as a new leak hints that the foldable 5G clamshell might even launch as early as this week already.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 image leaks with an eye-catching camera

Samsung's new foldable smartphone is back on the agenda for Samsung Unpacked 2020 in August, and a leaked image of the handset gives us even more of an idea of what to expect. Successor to the original Galaxy Fold of 2019, the troubled launch of which nonetheless failed to dim enthusiasm - either of consumers or Samsung - to foldable displays, the new Galaxy Z Fold 2 is expected to bring several improvements.

Galaxy Z Fold 2 announcement is still on, cover display gets a new skill

Samsung is not one to take "no" for an answer and, despite rumors that its next foldable phone is far from ready, it seems that it will still be pushing through with at least a grand reveal next month. It still hasn't confirmed the odd new name but the Galaxy Z Flip 2 might be bringing some much-needed improvements in the foldable experience, including the screen that you only get to use when the foldable phone is folded shut.

Galaxy Z Fold 2 vs Surface Duo: who will fold and who will win

Galaxy Z Fold 2 vs Surface Duo: who will fold and who will win

The foldable phone dream, seeded by Samsung a few years ago, didn't seem to have generated the market reception its proponents may have hoped for. Partly due to limited availability and accessibility and partly due to timing, foldable phones have yet to take root in consumers' hearts and retail shelves. That hasn't stopped manufacturers from trying and two, in particular, will be taking almost opposite spins on the idea. Samsung's second Galaxy Fold, believed to be rebranded as the Galaxy Z Fold 2, promises a refinement of the original dream but the Microsoft Surface Duo offers a more practical compromise. Which of the two, then, is more likely to take the market by storm? We compare the two to get a glimpse of the probable future.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano leaked to be its lightest yet

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano leaked to be its lightest yet

Even before Lenovo took over from IBM, the ThinkPad brand has had a well-earned reputation for its robust, no-nonsense, and almost rugged qualities squarely targeted at hardcore computer users, especially those who need such devices for work. Save for one or two tablet models that mixed with Lenovo's Yoga brand, ThinkPad notebooks have never been considered to be anywhere near light or classy in terms of design. That may change once the ThinkPad X1 Nano comes out, leaked to be the ThinkPad's lightest model ever.
