Galaxy Fold gets a dedicated video on how to take care of it

When was the last time you've seen an instructional or even just promotional video about how to take care of a smartphone? Those may have been common back in 2009 when the first ones were still coming out of the market but, these days, it is presumed that almost everyone knows the basics of protecting a phone from an early, accidental death. Samsung made that mistaken presumption a few months back so now it isn't taking any chances with a short video on what not to do with the world's second commercially available foldable phone.

Galaxy S and Galaxy Note merger now makes more sense

Galaxy S and Galaxy Note merger now makes more sense

For the past two years or so, there have been rumors of Samsung either merging the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines or axing the latter. Galaxy Note users find that proposal almost unacceptable, especially considering it might involve "downgrading" their beloved line to a smartphone without an S Pen. But considering Samsung's trends from the past years, that might actually be the inevitable and best outcome, provided it does make one concession towards lovers of the productive and creative stylus.

Galaxy Fold second pre-order to kick off early due to high demand

Galaxy Fold second pre-order to kick off early due to high demand

When Samsung delayed the launch of the Galaxy Fold due to "unforeseen" problems, there were some doubts it would be able to fully recover. For one, the price of the foldable smartphone has already been very prohibitive. For another, it has caused some to doubt the practicality of a foldable device in the first place. Despite those odds, and at least according to Samsung's numbers, demand for the Galaxy Fold has been so high that the company is forced to bump up its second pre-order batch earlier than planned.

Galaxy Fold has optimized apps from Microsoft, Amazon, and Google

Foldable phones like the Samsung Galaxy Fold and to some extent dual-screen phone like the LG G8X ThinQ push the boundaries of smartphone factors. The downside to such novelty is that the platform and its apps may not exactly be designed to accommodate the new use cases foldable and dual-screen phones open up. That is why, on the day of its launch in South Korea, Samsung is assuring current and would-be owners of its expensive and now rare Galaxy Fold that they won't be left fumbling in the dark with apps that have been updated to take advantage of the new breed of device.

Huawei Mate X will immediately be obsolete when it launches next month

Product launch schedules aren't rocket science but those are also carefully made with certain windows of opportunity in mind. When they miss those schedules, there's a very strong chance it will affect other products or be affected adversely. That definitely seems to be the case with Huawei's first and so far only foldable phone that has been delayed by half a year. It may finally launch next month but it might already be outdated and replaced by a new model in just a few months.

Everything rests on these 3 Samsung Galaxy Fold “fixes”

Everything rests on these 3 Samsung Galaxy Fold “fixes”

It's fair to say the Galaxy Fold didn't quite make the splash that Samsung was hoping for. Oh, the new foldable Android smartphone certainly got talked about when it arrived in reviewers' hands earlier this year, only for all the wrong reasons.

Galaxy Fold available starting this week

Galaxy Fold available starting this week

After months of delays, speculation, and even rumors of a cancellation, Samsung is finally launching the Galaxy Fold once more. Not today, mind, you'll have to wait a bit depending on where you're located. The point is that, at least as far as Samsung is concerned, it's full steam ahead towards full retail availability. No more beta testing by influencers. The Galaxy Fold is here but whether it will survive is the question everyone will be on the lookout for in the coming weeks.

LG tri-fold phone patent comes with a stylus, too good to be true

LG tri-fold phone patent comes with a stylus, too good to be true

Samsung will be launching the Galaxy Fold later this month, on the 27th, in fact, according to rumors. Despite the negative coverage of the previous Galaxy Fold flop, the true launch of the foldable phone will undoubtedly be the talk of the town, spurring other manufacturers to eventually follow suit, one way or another. LG, of course, won't be outdone and does have a few ideas of its own. A new patent awarded to the company a few months ago could be one of the best ideas out there but does raise questions and maybe even doubts about its execution.

Galaxy Fold US pre-registrations open up again

Galaxy Fold US pre-registrations open up again

Short of yet another "unforeseen" design and structural disaster, it seems that there is no stopping Samsung's second stab at claiming the foldable smartphone market that currently has a population of one. It just recently opened up pre-registrations for the device in China last week, which seemed odd considering it usually favored an initial US or Korean debut. It seems it was just getting something bigger ready as the Galaxy Fold's US landing page has now been opened up again, complete with all the marketing language and images that would try to make you forget the past six months ever happened.

Galaxy Fold pre-registration re-opens in China

Galaxy Fold pre-registration re-opens in China

Depending on who you ask or what feature you are aiming for, the Galaxy Note 10 might be Samsung's best phone yet. Some, however, might still feel that the company's best is still its failed foldable phone. Good thing, then, that Samsung hasn't given up just either. The company has promised the Galaxy Fold would return next month but it never put a date on it. It seems that the day is truly close as it has opened pre-registrations again but, at least for now, only in China.

TCL is making a foldable tablet under its own name

TCL is making a foldable tablet under its own name

You may no longer remember or even consider TCL as a smartphone maker. Once upon a time, the company better known for its TVs did put out rather forgettable handsets in the market. Of late, its name gets mentioned in smartphone news as the actual hands behind the most recent Alcatel and BlackBerry phones. Next year, however, TCL might be back in action with no less than five mobile devices, one of which is a tablet that folds into a smartphone and vice versa.

Huawei Mate X may launch with newer Kirin 990 processor

There may be marketing benefits and bragging rights associated with launching first and launching early but there are also practical advantages to taking a step back. Samsung may have unintentionally saved Huawei the headache of discovering weaknesses in the material and design of foldable phones. And now by launching in late 2019, the Huawei Mate X may also benefit from using a yet to be announced Kirin 990 system-on-chip.
