Xiaomi made the AirPower-style charger Apple couldn’t – plus an 80W wireless stand

Xiaomi claims to have achieved where Apple failed, with a new multi-coil wireless fast charging pad capable of charging multiple devices simultaneously - just as Apple AirPower was meant to do. Apple's decision to pull the plug on its AirPower charging mat was a rare public admission of fallibility by the Cupertino firm, but that hasn't dimmed the desire among users for a smart charging pad that doesn't care whereabouts you place your phone.

Apple fined in Brazil for missing iPhone 12 charger and more

Apple's decision to remove the charger inside the box starting with the iPhone 12 was initially met with criticism and ridicule. As with anything Apple, however, others eventually followed suit anyway. Those, however, might also follow Apple's fate as the Cupertino-based company now faces a nearly $1.9 million fine in Brazil. That amount, which might be just a slap on the wrist for the tech giant, covers not only its removal of the charger from the iPhone's packaging but also for other unfair practices that the consumer protection agency Procon-SP is accusing the company of putting in place.

Belkin recalls WIZ003 Portable Wireless Charger sold on Apple store

Belkin is a trusted brand when it comes to accessories for smartphones and tablets to the point that even Apple carries some of its products on its own store. That, however, doesn't mean it is exempt from having problems, some of which can lead to disastrous accidents if not immediately addressed. That seems to be the case here with one of its wireless chargers, a special one that it launched last year and was carried by Apple as well, that is now being recalled immediately due to serious safety hazards.

Samsung Wireless Charger Duo, single Charger Pad take aim at Apple again

Samsung Wireless Charger Duo, single Charger Pad take aim at Apple again

Samsung has been putting out wireless charging pads long before Apple even embraced wireless charging technologies. It also didn't miss opportunities to poke fun at Apple's missteps in that arena, like the stillborn AirPower charging pads. A few months back, it also took jabs at the new MagSafe wireless charger's limits, both in charging output and placement, with its Wireless Charger Trio. According to a fresh new leak, Samsung will continue that tradition this week, though in a more toned-down manner.

Apple chargers could become smaller, lighter with GaN adoption

Apple chargers could become smaller, lighter with GaN adoption

Apple's chargers have become the center of attention a few months back and not exactly in a good way. The company's decision to exclude the power adapter from iPhone packaging didn't sit well with everyone but that doesn't mean Apple isn't innovating its charging technology anymore. On the contrary, that actually means it can aim even higher for something consumers might want to buy, especially if they end up being more portable as this report seems to imply.

HomePod 14.3 software update sneaked in a small but important change

HomePod 14.3 software update sneaked in a small but important change

Apple made big and still doubted claims about reducing electronic waste when it removed the charger and EarPods from the Apple 12 packaging. It isn't, however, applying that same logic across all its devices, at least not yet. The HomePod mini, for example, ships with its own power brick, and you can use only that to sufficiently power up the smart speaker. At least that was until a firmware update a few weeks back that added a new feature without anyone even noticing it.

Galaxy S21 might not come with chargers or headphones in the box

If you were completely shocked by this turn of events, then you probably don't know Samsung that well. Not too long ago, Samsung joined or maybe even led the Internet in mocking Apple for the latter's decision to exclude a charger inside the iPhone 12 packaging. Those who were more familiar with Samsung's history simply started counting down instead. Less than two months later, we're seeing what appears to be confirmation that, after deriding Apple, Samsung will actually be following in its footsteps and ship without chargers or headphones in its upcoming early 2021 flagship.

Apple MagSafe Duo Charger tipped to launch this month

Apple MagSafe Duo Charger tipped to launch this month

In October, Apple unveiled its new iPhone 12 line and announced new MagSafe and MagSafe Duo chargers. The standard MagSafe charger is currently available for purchase, but the MagSafe Duo availability is a mystery.
