Android Marshmallow Update: Every Phone Announced So Far
Today we're having a peek at the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update list – every smartphone whose maker has given the thumbs up so far. This includes phones from Samsung, HTC, and Sony, as well a Google's own Nexus smartphones – and a few tablets, too. LG and Motorola are here as well. This bit of comprehensive Marshmallow update comes courtesy of our previous reports as well as updates released by manufacturers and/or wireless carriers (the former more than the latter) over the past week or two.
Samsung's Galaxy of phones
While we'd not be surprised to see a list that included the last couple of waves of devices – Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S5, and all that – we've been fairly surprised by the lack of word from Samsung on their plans to update. Chances are we'll also see the Note 5 and Note 4 hit Marshmallow, but until we hear from Samsung, we'll be relying on this tipped list.
LG and the G
LG's keeping their list short. We're working with mostly rumors here – and a short list released by T-Mobile. LG's listings mostly stick with the devices released over the past year. We would not be surprised if this list expanded substantially.
• LG G3
• LG G4
• LG G Stylo
• LG G Pad 10.1
• LG G Flex 2
You'll notice the absence of the LG G2 on this list. We'd love to see it there too. Again, don't freak out if your LG device isn't on this list – LG hasn't actually made a large Android 6.0 Marshmallow announcement yet. We're crossing our fingers for SOON.
Sony's full Z
Sony has confirmed that they'll be ushering in a wave of updates to Android 6.0 for their devices in the future, but has not set a date for any one device. They'll be updating their Z line of smartphones, for the most part.
• Xperia M5
• Xperia C5 Ultra
• Xperia M4 Aqua
• Xperia C4
• Xperia Z2
• Xperia Z2 Tablet
• Xperia Z3
• Xperia Z3 Compact
• Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
• Xperia Z3+
• Xperia Z4 Tablet
• Xperia Z5
• Xperia Z5 Compact
• Xperia Z5 Premium
If you've got a device from the past couple of years that did not make the list, you more than likely purchased a device on a carrier or purchased an obscure, small-run smartphone. This list cuts off at the first Z.
Motorola's X-line
Over the past couple of years, Motorola has really boosted their game with Android updates. Ever since right around the time they were acquired by Google – how about that? Now that they're owned by Lenovo, things haven't changed all that much – for the most part.
• Moto Turbo
• Moto Maxx
• Moto X Pure Edition (USA, 2nd gen)
• Moto X (2nd Gen)
• Moto X Pure Edition (USA, 3rd gen)
• Moto G (regular and LTE, both 2nd-gen)
• Moto X Style
• Moto X Play
You'll notice the absence of the device Moto E (in all iterations.) Moto E users are not pleased that their several-month-old device is not on this list. We do not have confirmation of these devices or their timelines from Motorola directly.
HTC One and the Tablet
HTC announced that they'd be bringing Marshmallow to their One line of smartphones almost before Google even finished their Marshmallow announcements. HTC's list includes a lot of "MAY receive update" listings – as such, you're going to want to be cautious about what you decide will be certain or not.
• HTC Desire EYE
• HTC Desire 816
• HTC Desire 820
• HTC Desire 826
• HTC One M8
• HTC One M8s
• HTC One M8 EYE
• HTC One E8
• HTC One M9
• HTC One M9+
• HTC One ME
• HTC One E9
• HTC One E9+
• HTC Butterfly 2
• HTC Butterfly 3
That's a lot of smartphones eligible for Marshmallow. Don't be entirely shocked if the whole lot doesn't turn up with the update before the end of the year. This is the first large Android update from Google that HTC has left the HTC One M7 off the list of updates for.
Google's Nexus
Generally Google keeps its last couple of years of Nexus smartphones and tablets updated with the newest version of Android. In this case, with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, that means kicking out the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 10 as well as the first Nexus 7.
• Nexus 5X (out of box)
• Nexus 6X (out of box)
• Nexus 5
• Nexus 6
• Nexus 7 (2nd gen)
• Nexus 9
• Nexus Player (USA)
Above you'll find a list of confirmed devices that'll be getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow. These devices are confirmed by Google. You can get these updates right this minute if you do so feel inclined.
ASUS
ASUS has confirmed the following devices to be getting Android 6.0 at some point in the near future – likely before the first half of 2016 is over.
• ZenFone 2
• ZenFone 2 Deluxe
• ZenFone 2 Laser
• PadFone S
• ZenFone Selfie
OnePlus
OnePlus' story is a little more complicated. You can expect the following to get Marshmallow updates – sort of.
• OnePlus One
• OnePlus 2
• OnePlus X
Everyone else – stay calm! Your devices will see update within the next few weeks, fingers crossed. If not, well... there's always the Google Now launcher.
