Sony e-paper HUIS remote control goes on sale after all

Who says dreams can't come true? That idea was partly behind crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo, helping dreamers and makers turn ideas into products. July last year, Sony took that rather popular idea and turned it into a sort of internal incubation platform, allowing employees to test their ideas with the potential of turning them into actual Sony products. Now the first of those ideas have achieved maturation and is being launched by the company's Japanese headquarter. Introducing the HUIS, perhaps the world's first e-ink universal remote control.

Revamped Apple TV remote app for iPhone coming soon

Revamped Apple TV remote app for iPhone coming soon

If there was one negative aspect about the new Apple TV that users discovered at launch, it was limitation on performing searches and entering text with the set-top box's included remote. Fortunately, Apple soon released the tvOS 9.1 update late last year improving voice search capabilities with Siri, and another update is on its way that will allow users to take advantage of dictation for text entry via the remote's mic. But the next big advancement that Apple has planned is using an iPhone to replace the remote altogether.

Apple TV remote app for iOS to get Siri features in 2016

Apple just released tvOS 9.1 for the new fourth-gen Apple TV this week, not only allowing users to take advantage of the Siri Remote's voice capabilities for searching music, but also making the device compatible with the Remote app for iOS. The latter means that users can enter text and navigate menus on the Apple TV from their iPhone or iPad. However, since Siri is already built into the iPhone, what about an iOS Remote app that took advantage of voice input just as the Apple TV's physical remote does?

Volvo turns dump truck into RC car, gives 4-year-old the controls

There's probably a dozen different ways to advertise a dump truck, and they're probably all boring compared to this. Volvo has unveiled its new FMX, an 18-ton, 540hp, 8x6 all-wheel-drive construction dump truck. In order to promote the thing, Volvo basically turned it into a remote-controlled car, able to be driven from a remote location via custom-made controls, and then handed it over to a four-year-old to play with.

Apple TV games now required to work with Siri Remote

It seems that Apple TV developers, particularly game developers, are already hitting a bit of a snag even before the device launches to the public. Seen by some as a bit of flip-flopping on Apple's part, the company updated to App Programming Guide for tvOS to include one small but earth shattering change for game developers. Contrary to what it first said on stage and in public, games that support controllers are now required to support the Apple TV remote, a.k.a. the brand new Siri Remote.
