This Honor Magic should’ve been Honor’s big CES 2017 launch

Honor brought its Millennial-bait 6X to CES 2017 complete with a startlingly low price tag, but it hid its magic - literally - in the corner of a demo booth. The Honor Magic was announced for China some months ago, but had until now avoided American shores, despite no shortage of interest. It's undoubtedly the company's most interesting device right now.

Honor 6X hands-on: Bokeh on a budget

Honor may be obsessed with Millennials and youth, but its ambitions of cornering the affordable Android smartphone market aren't just good news for the young. Joining the team on Huawei's offshoot is the new Honor 6X, originally announced in China back in October, but given its North American and European pricing at CES 2017 today. The price is certainly enough to catch the eye, at $250 unlocked and SIM-free in the US.

Honor 6X targets Millennial photo-addicts on an Android budget

Honor, Huawei's brand obsessed with Millennials and selling them smartphones, has brought its latest model at CES 2017, the Honor 6X. Boasting two cameras on the back, for a surprisingly broad aperture range of f/0.95 through to f/16 - albeit digitally aided - the Honor 6X could very well turn out to be a favorite of the shutterbug on a budget. As well as the dual lenses, there's phase detection autofocus for 0.3-second locks.

Huawei Honor 8 to get Android 7.0 Nougat via EMUI 5.0

Huawei Honor 8 to get Android 7.0 Nougat via EMUI 5.0

The Honor 8, from Huawei’s sub-brand, might not be the super premium, not to mention super expensive, Huawei Mate 9, but that doesn’t mean it’s an underdog. In addition to flagship specs packed into a somewhat mid-range price, the Honor 8 has also been promised at least two years’ worth of software updates. Making good on its promise, Honor will be rolling out the smartphone’s first major update in two months. While EMUI 5.0, Huawei’s latest custom Android experience, is big news already for Huawei/Honor fans, even better news is the fact that it comes with Android 7.0 Nougat in tow.

Huawei “Honor Magic” leak hints at phone with thin bezels

Chinese OEMs like Vivo were some of the first to start the mad race towards ultra thin smartphones. And now it seems that Chinese brands will also be blazing the trail towards smartphones with barely any bezels. Following Xiaomi’s admittedly impressive nearly bezel-free Mi Mix, Huawei sub-brand honor might be on the verge of putting out its own spin. Nicknamed the “Honor Magic”, this smartphone takes a slightly different take from the Mi Mix and has a bit more bezel top and bottom in order to deliver a still familiar design.

Huawei Honor Pad 2 tablet, Watch S1 smartwatch break cover

Huawei may already have a lot of devices beyond smartphones, but its sub-brand honor hasn’t ventured outside as much. That changes today as the company launches two new devices that aren’t phones. The Honor Pad 2, as the number implies, follows up on Honor’s previous slate, while the Honor Watch S1 dives head first into full smartwatch territory. And, in typical Honor fashion, these devices will be offered with dirt cheap prices, though which markets outside of China will get it remains an open question.

Huawei honor 8 promised to get 2 years of software updates

Huawei sub-brand honor is clearly piling up the treats to entice US customers to switch over from more popular, mainstream, carrier subsidized smartphones they've become used to. In addition to releasing the near flagship but definitely more affordable honor 8 smartphone, the company is now promising that said device is guaranteed to receive continuous software updates over two years, and a wee bit more afterwards. That's almost as good as the Nexus promise, except in a branded, and customized, Android experience.

8 things to know about the $399 Honor 8

8 things to know about the $399 Honor 8

Honor might not be a name you're familiar with in smartphones, but the upstart handset maker is hoping to change all that with the Honor 8 - particularly if you're a Millennial. Huawei's sub-brand may have a tendency to over-use the phrase "digital native" but for Android buyers on a budget its strategy of selling direct and cutting out the middle-man makes the Honor 8 almost disturbingly good value for money.
