Asia to get rare MGS 5 PS4 model in honor of Snake

It won't be long now and Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will be landing in the market. And to celebrate that momentous occasion, Sony and Konami have worked together to come out with a special limited edition of the PlayStation 4 that bears the unmistakable markings of the franchise' protagonist, Snake. Now, while it isn't yet sure what will be bundled with the console, though best guess is MGS 5: The Phantom Pain, that might not matter to those in the US and Europe, as the variant will be an Asian exclusive.

Like other limited edition PS4 consoles, the markings on this MGS 5 version are both discreet yet identifiable. The red and black motif on the console itself is reminiscent of the same colors on Snake's bionic arm. If that wasn't a dead giveaway yet, the box does have the title of the game engraved on it. The controller, on the other hand, is patterned after Snake's trusty gun. And again, obvious clues include the insignia of Snake's company, the Diamond Dogs.

This MGS 5: The Phantom Pain PS4 is just one of the latest limited edition bundles Sony has put out to both boost the sales of the console as well as promote its most high profile games. Previous ones include the 20th Anniversary and the Destiny and Last of Us Remastered bundles. And yes, there was even a Frozen edition in Japan.

As for the game itself, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will land in stores September 1, with PC and Steam rollout to start on September 15. Series creator Hideo Kojima confirmed that this will, in fact, be the very last title in the franchise, making this limited edition console truly something for the history books.
