Titanfall sequel tipped by new McFarlane Toys figures

It's been some time since Xbox One-exclusive Titanfall took the FPS-genre by storm, with its multiplayer-only, mech-based combat. Developed by Respawn, itself made up of Call of Duty vets, the game ran its course in terms of DLC releases over the first year, and now things have gone quiet for the series. Fans have been eagerly awaiting news of a follow-up, and the first hints of a "Titanfall 2" may have just been leaked by figurine maker McFarlane Toys.

As the makers of official Titanfall action figures, the toy company has just announced a new series of figurines that are to be released this winter. More interesting is that the announcement mentions the toys "will be released in conjunction with the highly anticipated launch of Titanfall 2."

This is the first time the name Titanfall 2 has used in any official way, and the only real details that have been known up to this point are that a sequel will be multiplatform, and that publisher EA is planning for a release sometime before March 31st, 2017.

Some have expected that EA's mentions of a "new Titanfall experience" simply refer to the release of the upcoming mobile version, which is being developed in tandem with a free-to-play PC release for the Asian market. It's not clear if the statement from McFarlane Toys about a true sequel was made in mistake, but it seems unlikely that a new console title will be ready this winter.

Speaking to Eurogamer, EA's response the news was as follows: "MacFarlane Toys will be releasing toys inspired by Titanfall in Winter of 2016. We have yet to provide a release date for the next Titanfall experience from Respawn."

As for McFarlane Toys, their announcement for the new figures included a comment from CEO Todd McFarlane, who said "This is a perfect fit. McFarlane [Toys] was created so I could make cool stuff just like this. Without saying too much about the new game... You're not going to believe where we can take this."

The new Titanfall figures are said to be part of a new Collector Box Program for 2016, with each figurine measuring 7 inches tall and featuring an average of 15 articulation points.
