South Park: The Game delayed until 2013

Bad luck if you you were hoping to get South Park: The Game for Christmas, as the anticipated title becomes the latest in a string of high-profile games to be delayed into 2013. THQ buried the news in its fiscal 2012 financial results, pushing the release date back from the second half of 2012, as original intended, to last quarter of the 2013 financial year, which means sometime between January 1 and March 31 2013.

No reason for the postponement has been given by THQ, though suggestions aren't hard to find. The company made an $8m net loss in 2012, and is believed to have made 20-30 people redundant and cancelled Project North Carolina development. Some of those leaving the company were part of the South Park team, it's believed.

South Park: The Game borrows the distinctive visual style from the cartoon, and is a role-playing title where the gamer must guide a new kid in town through various adventures with the foul-mouthed characters. Officially announced back in December 2011, it will be released for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that the Tomb Raider reboot had also been pushed back to 2013, while Irrational Games disappointed many with the news that BioShock Infinite will also miss its previous launch window. Developers for both claimed final polishing was the reason for the extended timescale.
