Nexus 6 details and a DROID for Verizon

This morning we dug into the FCC documents for Motorola's next big release. Really big, as it were – a full 6-inches of display to take on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the iPhone 6 Plus. We've heard rumors that Google would pick up Motorola's next big release as a "Nexus 6", working with 6-inches of display. We've also heard that Verizon would be getting the device on their carrier. What we hadn't heard so far – but what we can basically (nearly) confirm without Motorola saying so is that Verizon's model will be the same, but with DROID branding.

Motorola includes the following letter inside the FCC listing discovered by Engadget today. This letter is the key in showing how the DROID device and the NEXUS device are essentially one in the same.

Motorola Mobility LLC hereby declares the mobile device carrying FCC ID IHDT56PK2 is electrically equivalent to the certified device carrying FCC ID IHDT56PK1 in the following areas:

Motorola goes on to list Wi-Fi transceiver, Bluetooth transceiver, Bluetooth LE transceiver (this means we're working with Bluetooth 4.0), GSM/WCDMA 850/1900 MHz transceiver, LTE transceiver, Bands 2 and 4. FCC ID IHDT56PK1 has been linked to the DROID device in FCC documents in the recent past. FCC ID IHDT56PK2 is generally assumed to be the NEXUS.

Motorola goes on:

This equivalence declaration asserts that the portions of this device identified above are identical to those of the referenced device, in that they share:

• Identical circuit design and topology.

• Identical electrical components (including the antenna).

• Identical physical layout.

• Identical factory tuning and configuration.

• Identical physical characteristics of the PC Board and Housing.

The DROID and the NEXUS may not look exactly the same, but they'll certainly share similar innards.

Below are what we've gathered for specifications on this device – or these devices – from rumors and tips shared over the past few weeks.

Also take the following bits of information into account. Start with PocketNow's anonymous tip that a Motorola-made Nexus 6 will be making its way to Verizon. Look at the DROID Turbo leaks and note the two newest @DroidLanding tweets from early last month.

Bigger – but not super massive. have a peek at the recent Nexus 6 size comparison to see how big this device might be – right around the size of the Galaxy Note 3.

Look like a winner to you? Which version do you think you'll be aiming for, the Google Play Edition (or the Nexus version), or the DROID edition from Verizon? Software will be your friend!
