Having gone up for preorder in Europe midway through October, the upcoming multitouch-capable ASUS Eee PC T91MT has now shown up for preorder in the US. Amazon are listing the convertible touchscreen netbook – the T91MT-PU17-WT, to give it its full, catchy title – for $549, though they don't have any specific release date.
Your $549 gets you a 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor, paired with 1GB of RAM (2GB supported), a 32GB SSD and a non-removeable battery good – ASUS say – for up to 5hrs of use. Of course, the most interesting element of the T91MT is its 8.9-inch rotating display, which – thanks to Windows 7 Home Premium and its new gesture support – supports multitouch input such as two-finger pinch-zooming.
Connectivity for the T91MT includes WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth, together with the usual array of USB and VGA ports, and the whole thing measures 8.86 x 6.46 x 0.99 inches and weighs 2.12lbs. Original reviews of the T91 (single-touch and with Windows XP) were mixed; we're hoping the T91MT fares better. Right now Amazon Germany are saying the netbook will ship in 2-3 weeks, so it seems like the US launch is reasonably close.
