Apple camera iPods delayed by bad CMOS parts?

We're ramping up to run our usual liveblog of the Apple iPod event tomorrow in San Francisco – join us at 10am PST on Wednesday 9th at http://live.slashgear.com for all the news, as it's announced – but could the company's camera-toting iPods be conspicuous by their absence?  According to Apple Insider, "technical difficulties" with the 3.2-megapixel camera modules believed to be integrated into the next-generation iPod touch, iPod nano and, potentially, iPod classic will see them delayed.

It's unclear whether that delay will mean Apple will no longer announce the new PMPs tomorrow or whether, more likely perhaps, they will be announced but not immediately go on sale in the usual fashion.  Apple Insider's tipster supposedly has "a strong track record" for insider news on the Cupertino company's launches.

Cases and even what has been purported to be leaked pre-production hardware have seemingly confirmed that Apple intend to add photographic abilities to their iPod range, while other leaks suggested that OmniVision – who supply the CMOS units for the iPhone 3GS – would provide the sensors.  Other expected news is a new version of iTunes, version 9, complete with social network integration.
