Watch Pikachu Cosplay in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

It’s the return of Pokemon-Amie, making friends with your Pokemon as it appeared first in Pokemon X and Pokemon Y. This time it’s coming to Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, and you’re going to be playing dress-up with your best buddy Pikachu. You’ll have to find the little yellow fuzzball first, of course, and this is only an example of possibly future gameplay.

What you’ll be seeing Pokemon-Ami return to the Pokemon franchise with trainers creating “close ties” to their Pokemon in non-traditional ways. This means playing games with Pokemon (not just fighting them against one another), feeding them snacks*, and petting them when it’s time to relax.

*These special bits of food are called Poke Puffs. Kind of like Scooby Snacks – tasty and species-specific.

ABOVE: The cosplay starts in at around 0:56 into the Mega Metagross video shared by Nintendo today.

Nintendo makes the love clear: “As a player’s Pokémon become more affectionate, they will be more likely to do such things as evade attacks in battle, land critical hits, and get an overall boost in performance.” And the dress-up is extensive – “Cosplay Pikachu” is what you’re seeing here.

Since before Nintendo announced Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire, the hype for a return to Hoenn has been heating. Now the pot is hot, and the excitement is boiling. Earlier this week we saw the reveal of Mega Metagross ring true as one the most popular one-hit-wonder articles of the day. Today the roller coaster continues rattling the tracks.

Whoever is behind the release schedule for the details of this return to every hardcore Pokemon’s favorite island is a genius. At just the right rate, the public Pokemon fanbase can’t seem to get enough. Watch SlashGear’s Pokemon tag portal for more through the future!
