Vizio's VIA Plus Google TV and Android smartphone and tablet aren't the company's only new products for CES 2011; the company also has a fresh range of Theater 3D HDTVs running the gamut of 22- to 71-inches. The passive 3D sets use battery-free glasses, and all models get Vizio's regular VIA apps - including Netflix, Facebook, Amazon Video on Demand, and Yahoo! TV Widgets, among other things - while two sets, the Vizio XVT3D476SV and XVT3D556SV, have Google TV functionality.

Vizio VIA Phone & VIA Tablet detailed as VIA Plus Google TV makes debut

Further details on Vizio's Android powered tablet and smartphone have emerged, with the company confirming that the Via Phone and Via Tablet will come with IR blasters to allow them to double as universal remote controls for your home A/V setup. Both devices have a 1GHz processor, WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth, along with HDMI, GPS and a microSD card slot. They'll play particularly nicely with VIA Plus, Vizio's new Google TV based range of HDTVs and Blu-ray players.

OnLive and Vizio are tipped to be each considering a subscription-based, streaming movie service to individually take on Netflix, according to the WSJ's sources. The shift would add entertainment content to OnLive's streaming gaming service, and fits in with the company's previously-expressed intent to broaden its platform offering; however, Vizio has not previously committed to a movie streaming system of its own, instead relying on Netflix integration - among other services - in its network-connected HDTVs.

Why my next HDTV will be a Vizio

Whenever I talk about HDTVs with other tech lovers, they typically point to Samsung LED-LCDs or Panasonic plasmas as the go-to televisions for the person looking for the best picture. And as an owner of a Panasonic plasma, I never protest. My 50-inch HDTV has been a treat to have in the house.

But when I get my hands on my next HDTV, I won’t be buying a Samsung LED or even a plasma to replace my beloved Panasonic. No, when I finally head to the store to get my hands on a new HDTV, I’m going to buy a Vizio set.
