Starbucks for Android updates: Shake to Pay and tipping

Starbucks aficionados with Android phones could easily have felt left out of the app fun, what with the iPhone version getting all the recent updates, but that's changing today with a new app for Google's OS. Fresh to Google Play today, the new app now supports digital tipping, a feature iPhone users have been taking advantage of since March, as well as Shake to Pay functionality.

With Shake to Pay, the payment barcode in the Starbuck app can be summoned to the fore with a quick, brisk shaking of your handset. That makes it easier to flash under the scanner in each store.

As before, there's the ability to pay for your drink directly from your phone, as well as add extra credit to your Starbucks Card. If you've got a number of such cards – if, for instance, someone gave one to you as a gift – you can consolidate them all together into a single account, too.

The app also has the usual store-finder abilities, and can show how many stars you've collected through Starbucks' Rewards scheme.

A free download, Starbucks for Android is available now.
