Sony teases details of PS4 2.50 "Yukimura" update

Xbox One owners just got their happy dose of monthly updates, finally bringing in a most requested feature: screenshots! Soon, it will the PlayStation 4 camp's turn to rejoice when system firmware version 2.50 rolls around. Codenamed "Yukmura", the massive update will also deliver some of the functionality that have been most requested by users, which including being able to easily suspend and then resume their PS4 gaming session. Of course, that's not the only goodies that firmware 2.50 will bring to the gaming table.

Gaming behavior has changed in the couple of years. Gamers today expect speed, not just from their consoles but also in terms of how they use the console. They want to be able to get in and get out as quickly as possible, without having to worry about whether their game was saved properly or whether they will be able to resume when they want to. This promise of a seamless Suspend/Resume feature was made two years back when the PS4 was first announced and now it is finally ready to hit the consoles at last. When that day comes, gamers will simply be able to put their PS4 in Rest Mode and then later pick up their console and press the PS button to resume. Sony says that nearly all PS4 games will support this feature, though it implies that there will be some that don't.

The update will also allow users to upgrade their Sub-Account to a Master account right from the PS4 itself. Sony announced the feature last month that lets users "graduate" from one account to the other when they come of age, but back then it was limited to a web browser. Now users can simply do it on the console. Another feature that was hinted in last week's leak which is now being confirmed is the ability to remap the DualShock 4's buttons. More than just a convenience, this new accessibility option also benefits gamers with limited dexterity or reach.

Sony also finally adds the option to stream Remote Play & Share at 60 fps. Of course, the quality will depend on your bandwidth, but for those that can, the option is now there. Do be careful when using this feature, as recent news proves that it can be open to abuse, with almost no legal recourse for the victim who knowingly but naively hands over control to a stranger. And speaking of sharing, the PS4 will now be able to directly upload their adventures to Dailymotion.

These are just some of the juicy tidbits coming for PS4 owners when 2.50 "Yukimura" rolls out sometime next month.
