Samsung Pay brings mobile payments to Verizon

Roughly two weeks after the US carrier confirmed it, Verizon subscribers are now able to take advantage of Samsung Pay. This means Samsung's mobile payment system is now available on all of the US's major carriers, having already been available on AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular since Samsung Pay first launched in September. Users with compatible Galaxy devices should now be able to download the Samsung Pay app from the Google Play store.

It's still not exactly clear why Verizon was the only holdout when Samsung Pay arrived in the US on September 28th, but at least their subscribers with a Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+, or Galaxy Note 5 are now in the loop.

Once Verizon users download the app and any necessary software updates, they will be free to open the Samsung Pay, enter their payment details, and start making payments wherever it's accepted. The payment platform not only works with NFC, but also supports magnetic strip-based payments, giving it a slight advantage over Apple Pay and Android Pay.

In terms of financial institutions that support Samsung Pay, the system is compatible with credit and debit cards from American Express, Bank of America, Citi, and US Bank. It's likely that the months ahead will see competition in the mobile payment market heat up, as even LG has been rumored to be developing their own NFC-based system.
