Real DIY Thor's Hammer can only be picked up by maker

Forged in the heart of a dying star, the legendary hammer Mjolnir, Thor's Hammer, is created here on our Earth by one intrepid DIY creator. "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor." Thus, as most mortals and gods alike have found out, this hammer is not very easy to lift. Created by Allen Pan, known just recently on YouTube as Sufficiently Advanced, this earthbound iteration of the hammer is made with a combination of an electromagnet and a fingerprint scanner.See also: DIY Thor's hammer blasts 80,000 volts.

Pan is an instructor at The Exploratory and an Electronics and Robotics Fellow at Los Angeles Makerspace, and has just recently begun creating a collection of "pretend things [made] into real things." As you'll see, he gained some inspiration from the most recent Avengers film in which Tony Stark suggested that Thor was tricking them all by using a fingerprint scanner – so to speak – to lift the hammer on command.

The creator of this hammer has also created a couple more interesting objects, as you'll see below. One is from the Anime show Naruto, the other comes from Zelda.

First you'll see the Rasengan – a special ball of energy created by Naruto in the show, made to toss at an enemy in a battle. It's his signature attack! This video shows how the ball is created in Pan's hand – LEDs to the rescue!

You'll also find Pan rolling with a treasure box sound device for his refrigerator in the video below. We'll expect that this happens no matter which object is pulled out – not just a very tall beer.

Our refrigerator plays the Zelda treasure box sound when you open it now. (Unmute the video to watch!)
