Pokemon Bank Update Out For UltraSun And UltraMoon
Pokemon UltraSun and UltraMoon have only been available for a few days, but Nintendo has nonetheless been quick to make Pokemon Bank compatible with those two new games. Today Nintendo and GameFreak pushed an update to Pokemon Bank that will make it play nice with UltraSun and UltraMoon, meaning you can transfer any Pokemon you had in storage over to your new titles.
Not only that, but the two companies have also made the PokeTransporter compatible with the eShop versions of Pokemon Gold and Silver. Those two titles went live on the eShop back in September, so players have had plenty of time to catch most (if not all) of the Pokemon available in those classic games.
We saw Nintendo do something similar with the eShop versions of Red, Blue, and Yellow last year. Using the PokeTransporter, players could move their RBY Pokemon to the original Sun and Moon, making it easier to add some hard-to-find Pokemon to their PokeDexes. It should be noted that, unlike Pokemon Bank, Pokemon moved from one game to another via PokeTransporter can't be moved back to their original games, so if you're sending Pokemon from Gold or Silver, you should be absolutely sure it's something you want to do.
For the uninitiated, Pokemon Bank is a paid service that offers players mass storage and easy transfer between moden Pokemon games. All titles from X and Y on are compatible with Pokemon Bank, and with enough storage for 3,000 Pokemon, we would imagine that some diehard Pokemon fans have developed quite the collection since it launched. Even better is the fact that Nintendo only charges $5 per year for Pokemon Bank, so all of that extra functionality does indeed come cheap.
The future of Pokemon Bank is still unknown at this point. Though we know that Pokemon UltraSun and UltraMoon will be the final mainline Pokemon games on 3DS – with the next coming to the Switch – Nintendo has yet to confirm whether or not Pokemon Bank will make the jump with the rest of the series. Presumably, we'll see Pokemon Bank come to the Switch as well, but we're left waiting on Nintendo for official word.
