The last few months have been relatively quiet in terms of the free games offered through PlayStation Plus, but that’s all changing in June. Sony has revealed the games that will up for grabs through PS Plus next month, and both of them are excellent titles worth downloading. That’s especially true if recent events have you feeling down about a particular blue hedgehog.
We’re talking, of course, about Sonic the Hedgehog. Though the reaction to the first trailer for his upcoming movie was less than stellar, there is some good to be found in the Sonic the Hedgehog universe. Sonic Mania is a shining example of that, being one of the best Sonic games in the past 20 years, and it’ll be one of two titles offered through PlayStation Plus next month.
If you’re a fan of Sonic‘s 2D platformers, Sonic Mania definitely does not disappoint. I named Sonic Mania one of the best games of 2017, and even though we’re almost two years out from release, it’s still very much worth checking out for anyone who has fond memories of the Sega Genesis era. Even if you don’t, Sonic Mania is still worth a download since it’s one of the best 2D platformers around.
Not a fan of side-scrolling retro games? No worries, because the second game on tap for PlayStation Plus in June is Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. This compilation bundles together Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and a hefty portion of DLC for both games. Toss the recently-remastered Borderlands Game of the Year Edition into the mix and you’ve got yourself the entire mainline series so far.
Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is going free just in time for Borderlands 3‘s September release, so if you’re new to the series and you want to see what all of the fuss is about, this is definitely a good place to start. This new batch of PlayStation Plus games will go live on June 4th, so clear some space on your hard drive.
