OPPO Reno3 Pro 5G revealed as herald of 2020's greatest phones

Both the OPPO Reno3 and the OPPO Reno3 Pro were revealed on the 26th of December, 2019. Both of these masterpieces have the look and the feel of a transitioning collection of top-end smartphones from a company that sells top-end smartphones for prices well below their competition.

The OPPO Reno3 has a 6.4-inch display at 1080 x 2400 pixels (AMOLED) with a teardrop notch that holds a 32 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture, 26mm (wide) lens, 1/2.8" sensor, and 0.8µm pixels. This front-facing camera can capture HDR content and video at 1080p at 30 frames per second. Under the hood is a MediaTek Dimensity 1000L with G77 GPU and built-in 5G connectivity capabilities. In the mix is a microSD card slot for up to 256GB added storage, while the phone has 128GB internal storage of its own. Two versions of the Reno3 will be released, one with 8GB RAM, the other with 12GB RAM.

Both versions of the OPPO Reno3 (non-pro) will feature four cameras on its back. The main sensor is 48 MP, f/1.7, 26mm (wide), 1/2.0", 0.8µm, PDAF, OIS, there's an ultrawide secondary camera (8 MP, f/2.2, 13mm (ultrawide), 1/4.0", 1.12µm), and another two with 2MP. The two with 2MP are for depth sensing and macro photography. This camera array is capable of capturing HDR content and video at 2160p (4K) at 30fps, 1080p at 60fps, and lower. This camera array rolls with gyro-EIS for image stabilization, too.

The OPPO Reno3 Pro 5G has a 90Hz(!) 6.5-inch display at 1080 x 2400 pixels (AMOLED) with a punch-hole front-facing camera. The front-facing camera on this device appears to be identical to that of the OPPO Reno3 as described above. The back-facing camera array is where the magic is made.

On the back of the Pro, there's a 64 MP camera (main) with f/1.8 aperture, 26mm (wide) lens, 1/1.7" sensor, pixels at 0.8µm, and PDAF! There's a 13 MP camera with telephoto lens, f/2.2 aperture, 1/3.4" sensor, pixel size 1.0µm, PDAF, and 5x optical zoom. The last two cameras are ultrawide (13mm) at 8MP and depth-sensing (2MP). This camera array can capture HDR content, video at 2160p (4K) at 30fps, 1080p at 60fps, and lower. This camera array has gyro-EIS as well.

The Pro has a Qualcomm SDM765 Snapdragon 765G chipset with Adreno 620 GPU. This device has integrated dual-mode 5G, too – so BOTH Reno3 models revealed today are ready to roll for the near-future.

All OPPO Reno3 models have a non-removable Li-Po 4025 mAh battery. The non-pro has fast battery charging 30W (VOOC Flash Charge 4.0), while the Pro has fast battery charging 30W (VOOC Flash Charge 4.0). Both will launch with Android 9.0 Pie and ColorOS 7 right out the gate.

The Reno3 (non-Pro) is launching on December 31, 2019, for around CNY3,399 ($485/€440) for the 8GB RAM version. The 12GB RAM version will roll for around CNY3,699 ($530/€475). Color options for the non-pro include White, Black, Starry Night Blue, and "Sunrise".

OPPO Reno3 Pro 5G will cost CNY3,999 ($570/€515) with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, and that'll go on pre-order on December 31, 2019. The 12/256 GB version will be released on January 10, 2020, and will cost CNY4,499 ($640/€580).

There's also a special edition Oppo Reno3 Pro Pantone 2020 version. That's PANTON 19-4052 Classic Blue, color of the year! It comes ina retail box that looks like a Pantone color swatch, with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage for CNY4,199 ($600/€540).

SIDENOTE: If you take a peek at RealMe in the near future, you'll almost certainly see devices very similar to this. Take a peek at that link to learn a bit more about RealMe if you're not yet familiar – they'll bring similar specs for prices even lower than what OPPO will bring, if history serves as a guide for the next few months.
