More capacitive netbook touchscreens promised for 2H09

The capacitive touchscreen netbook storm continues to brew, with all signs pointing to a number of releases toward the end of 2009.  Latest panel manufacturer to throw its proverbial hat into the ring is Young Fast Optoelectronics, whose chairman has revealed that they will release a netbook-scale capacitive screen in the second half of this year.

Young Fast has been producing 3.2-inch capacitive panels since February 2009, with a monthly capacity of around 2-million units.  According to chairman TJ Lin, the company has already been working with – unnamed – netbook manufacturers to develop suitable touchscreen panels for upcoming products.

Capacitive touch looks to be the next major area of growth for netbooks.  Apple is the subject of ongoing rumors about either a capacitive netbook or large-format slate-style device, with the panels themselves believed to be sourced from Wintek.  Meanwhile manufacturer EETI has committed to launching 7-inch and 12-inch multitouch panels in the second half of this year.
