Lumia 650 goes up for preorder in US and Canada

Microsoft's sleek budget phone, the Lumia 650, is available for preorder in the United States and Canada. The handset debuted earlier this year, and is the maker's budget-tier Windows 10 handset. Initial reactions to the smartphone have been mixed, with some praising its design and others criticizing the lack of Continuum, the company's sleek business feature.

Of course, it isn't surprising the Lumia 650 lacks Continuum given the handset's modest hardware. As we've explained before, this particular Windows 10 phone is more concerned with meeting the budget category, achieving that with a $199 USD price tag. Such a cost comes with some sacrifices, though, and in this case those sacrifices revolve around the company's business feature. Those who are keen to use it will have to go with a higher-end option.

Microsoft Display Dock hands-on: Continuum could be huge

The Lumia 650 features a 5-inch OLED display, 8MP rear camera, dual SIM, 16GB of internal storage, 200GB of expansion storage via a microSD (not included), and, of course, Windows 10. The design itself is eye-catching, and includes a diamond-cut metal frame with a .27-inch profile.

Under the hood lies a Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 quad-core 1.3GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. Features include a 1280 x 720 resolution, NFC, accelerometer, ambient light sensor and proximity sensor, Bluetooth 4.1, 802.11b/g/n, and a user-replaceable 2000mAh battery. According to the Microsoft Store, the phone will start shipping on April 1.
