LEGO now the world's top toymaker

If it wasn't already obvious by the massive amount of visibility the LEGO brand has in your daily life by now, LEGO is a massively successful brand. They've made their massiveness official with an announcement during their most recent earnings call. This week LEGO has become the most successful toymaker in the world.

This most recent crown is achieved with revenue. Where Mattel held the revenue crown most recently, they're down to $2.01bn in revenue for the first half of 2014. This compares with LEGO's most recent reported revenue (also for the first half of 2014) at DKr11.5bn – approximately $2.03bn.

Revenue increased 15% compared to the same period last year. "Our revenue in the first half of 2014 has more than tripled compared to first half year revenue six years ago, in 2008. It is a very satisfactory result that shows our significant growth in recent years in a tough economic environment," suggested LEGO Group President and CEO Jørgen Vig Knudstorp.

Knudstorp continued, "The result for the first half of 2014 is an outcome of our ability to develop, launch and distribute LEGO products, which children all over the world put at the top of their wish lists. We are particularly pleased that classics such as LEGO City, LEGO Creator, LEGO Technic, and LEGO Star Wars continue to deliver very strong growth globally."

The LEGO Movie had a LOT to do with major growth this first half of 2014. As confirmed by Executive Vice President and CFO John Goodwin, "we are thrilled by the reception of The LEGO Movie products that provided a significant boost to our sales during the first half of 2014."
