Latest Google Pixel 3 leak tips super selfie mode and more

The leaks just keep coming for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones. While fans of the devices are liking the detail, Google is certainly not amused by this turn of events. There have been plenty of leaks with one earlier this week giving up specifications of the device. An entire shipment of the Pixel 3 XL devices is allegedly for sale on the black market and presumably, some fans have shelled out money for one of those devices.

Another leak is making the rounds and this one has tipped that the rear camera of the smartphone has been upgraded from the previous version and that there is a new Visual Core chip inside. The leak also tips a front-facing dual camera system that will support "Super Selfies" and other cool stuff. Dual cameras are said to be placed inside the notch on the Pixel 3 XL, suggesting this feature won't be offered on the normal Pixel 3.

It's more than a bit odd to see Google eschew what is becoming the norm in the industry to pack dual cameras on the rear of a smartphone yet plug two cameras into the front of the device while much of the industry sticks to a single camera there. Some rumors have tipped that single rear camera to be a marketing proposition for Google along the lines of only needing one rear camera because the cam is so good.

As for what the dual front cameras will do, word is that the "Super Selfie" mode will allow images with a faux bokeh and an improved Portrait Mode. One of the front facing sensors is a wide-angle lens says one source cited by 9to5Google. Reviews of those leaked Pixel 3 units have tipped modes for the front cams like "Natural" and "Soft" as well as zoom capability. Dual front cameras might also be used for better facial recognition to improve security.

The rear camera stays a single with one source claiming that Google is "doubling down" on that its camera is so good you don't need two cams. Leaks suggest that the rear camera will be 12.2MP and the front cams will be 8.1MP each. One of the sources claimed that Google is also rolling out a new Visual Core chip that will allegedly be used for "more than just HDR+."
