iPad Air already seeing pre-launch price cuts

Earlier this month, we saw retailers offering price cuts on the iPhone 5c shortly after the smartphone's launch, with Walmart in particular having launched the phone with an initial $20 pricing undercut of Apple, leading into a steeper discount soon after. Now it has done the same for the newly revealed iPad Air, with the retailer announcing yet another $20 discount.

Walmart has announced that it will be selling the iPad Air for $479 USD, a price tag marked $20 lower than what Apple is selling its slate for. The price applies to the 16GB Wi-Fi version of the Apple tablet. Whether other models of the tablet will also see the discount isn't known, but we won't have to wait too long to see.

Given that the retailer is two for two now, it is starting to look like a trend for Walmart to offer an initial $20 price slash for certain Apple devices, and it will be interesting to see if it applies to other models in the future. Best Buy and other retailers will likely follow suit, and price-match is always an option if you're not keen on shopping at Walmart.

We got our hands on the new Apple slate earlier this week, which you can check out for yourself via our hands-on. With the iPad Air, buyer will get a slimmed down version of the Apple slate with smaller bezels and a 9.7-inch Retina display. Unfortunately, there's no Touch ID on board, but with the slimmer design comes, not surprisingly, a lighter weight.
