Instagram Hits 150 Million Users Milestone
Instagram has announced its latest milestone on its blog, revealing that its user base has grown by 50 million users over the past six months, bringing its total number of users since launch up to — and beyond — 150 million users. This follows the last milestone it announced in February when it reached the 100 million user mark.
The photography app maker also goes on to detail some brief statistics on those users, of which in excess of 60-percent are located beyond the United States, spanning locations from Moscow to Iceland and back again. Said the company: "This community continues to surprise us every day with [its] creativity, sense of adventure and unique perspectives on the world."
Last month, Instagram updated to version 4.1 for iPhones and Android, adding into the mix video importing, and for iOS users automatic image straightening functionality was also added. Instagram Video support was added for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, something the app's maker said was the biggest request from Android users.
Video on Instagram was introduced by Facebook on June 20 following some tips and rumors that had surfaced earlier in the month. Such functionality positions the app against Twitter's Vine, a service that has likewise seen its own growth spurt, having announced the 40 million user milestone on August 20.
