HTC September event teaser is about an edgy Desire 10

HTC is clearly avoiding the maddening rush of announcements and product reveals at IFA 2016. In fact, it is also steering clear of Apple's event on 7th September. Instead, it will be doing things on its own and away from the others, nearer the end of September. Its latest teaser, titled "Be Edgier", is clearly about a new smartphone. And based on what we've seen so far, that could pretty much be about the HTC Desire 10, both Lifestlye and Pro editions, that could offer nearly the same key features as the HTC 10 itself but at a more affordable price.

HTC's teaser, of course, doesn't say much, but thanks to early leaked renders, the smartphone hinted by the video is undoubtedly the Desire 10 Pro. Even the "Be Edgier" slogan is a bit of a giveaway, referring to the design's adoption of chamfered edges versus HTC's previous flat or curved aesthetics. And no, it won't be about curved screen edges.

While a new HTC Desire smartphone isn't exactly a new thing, the existence of the Desire 10, particularly the Pro version, is a bit puzzling. The Desire 10 Lifestyle, much like the HTC 10 Lifestyle, may very well be a euphemism for a mid-range variant of a higher end model.

That higher end is, of course, the Desire 10 Pro, and if a GFXBench sighting is to be believed, this smartphone could rival the HTC 10 flagship. That's because it is noted to have a Snapdragon 820 processor, 5.1-inch WQHD screen, 4 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of storage. With flagship specs, a design that, at least visually, distances itself from previous Desire models, and a lower price tag, the Desire 10 Pro practically spells trouble for the already embattled HTC 10. Definitely a perplexing move by an equally embattled smartphone maker.

HTC will be bearing all come 20th September, and there will definitely be some curios eyes trying to see what the company is really up to.
