Verizon HTC 10 gets Nougat, ZTE Axon 7 mini preview starts

All the new Android smartphones released this year so far, including the recently announced Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, might have distracted you from one sad truth. Not all of last year's models have the joy of running Android 7.0 or 7.1.1 Nougat yet. As always, the dreaded slow-paced rollout of Android updates is keeping users from getting the latest and greatest Android version. But if you're an HTC 10 owner on Verizon's network, that painful waiting stops now. And if you own an unlocked ZTE Axon 7 Mini, it won't be long before you get your treat as well.

HTC 10 evo boasts waterproof all-metal body, adaptive audio

The HTC 10, despite a more positive reception, isn’t exactly selling like pancakes. So what is a company to do? Why, try again, of course! Following the announcement of the carrier-exclusive HTC Bolt in the US, HTC is bringing forward the HTC 10 evo. And if you’re feeling a tinge of deja vu, you won’t be alone. Yes, the two are exactly the same, except one will be made available to some other parts of the world. Good thing too, because the HTC 10 evo brings a few premium things to the table.

HTC September event teaser is about an edgy Desire 10

HTC September event teaser is about an edgy Desire 10

HTC is clearly avoiding the maddening rush of announcements and product reveals at IFA 2016. In fact, it is also steering clear of Apple’s event on 7th September. Instead, it will be doing things on its own and away from the others, nearer the end of September. Its latest teaser, titled “Be Edgier”, is clearly about a new smartphone. And based on what we’ve seen so far, that could pretty much be about the HTC Desire 10, both Lifestlye and Pro editions, that could offer nearly the same key features as the HTC 10 itself but at a more affordable price.

HTC Desire 10 Pro leaked specs reveal a flagship device

HTC Desire 10 Pro leaked specs reveal a flagship device

With the HTC 10 reportedly not doing so well in the market, it seems that HTC will be trying to attack the problem from a different angle. By putting out another smartphone with almost the same high-end specs under a different name and, hopefully, a lower price tag. That might seem to be the strategy it will indeed be employing if the HTC smartphone spotted at GFXBench is indeed the HTC Desire 10 Pro, which would blur the lines between HTC’s two smartphone lines. And probably confuse buyers as well.

HTC 10 to get Android 7.0 Nougat next quarter

HTC 10 to get Android 7.0 Nougat next quarter

Chronologically speaking, HTC was the first OEM to make the totally expected promise that Android Nougat would be coming to its current roster of flagships as soon as it comes out. Well, Nougat is now out, so HTC is following up on that promise. It is now saying when it plans to roll Android 7.0, which, by its estimates, will be sometimes in the last quarter of the year. At least for the HTC 10. The others will just have to wait a bit longer.

HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle, Pro press renders show HTC 10 ties

HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle, Pro press renders show HTC 10 ties

In the past, HTC distinguished its One flagship line from its Desire budget line not just in specs but also in design, with the latter usually sporting a generous amount of plastic. That divide, however, might soon be torn down, at least for the rumored HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle and Desire 10 Pro. While still midrange in features, these two smartphones are expected to bear a more premium design and build material resembling that of the HTC 10 itself, a speculation that is seemingly confirmed by these two press renders for the two smartphones.

HTC 10 apparently dropped by T-Mobile back in July

HTC 10 apparently dropped by T-Mobile back in July

HTC just can't seem to catch a break, at least not in the smartphone industry. And it's not for the lack of trying. The HTC 10 is arguably one of the better flagship devices this year, and yet it isn't doing wonders for HTC's coffers. And not for T-Mobile either. Apparently, the carrier has stopped offering the HTC 10 almost a month ago, which means that it only carried the smartphone a little less than two months after it launched.

‘QuadRooter’ vulnerabilities put 900m Android users at risk researchers say

A research team at Check Point has detailed a new set of Android vulnerabilities that could potentially leave as many as 900 million users exposed to security threats. More specifically, the set of four vulnerabilities - dubbed "QuadRooter" by Check Point - is found within Qualcomm chips, which becomes a major problem when you realize that Qualcomm chips are used in 65% of Android devices.

HTC swiftly promises Android Nougat for One M9, A9, HTC 10

So Google has finally decided that Android N will be forever known as Nougat. We'll leave open the debate of whether it actually matched what the Interwebs voted for (some claim it doesn't). For now, we will focus briefly on the rush of OEMs swearing fealty to the upcoming nutty treat. What rush? It seems that manufacturers aren't that hasty in promising the heavens to their customers. HTC, of course, is having none of that and has indeed promised Android Nougat for HTC One M9, One A9, and HTC 10 smartphones. Without, of course, promising when.
