HealthKit iOS 8 apps cleared for landing

There's been an iOS 8.0.1 update this week, and along with it an update for HealthKit. At the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus came word that HealthKit apps would need to take a breather. Now they're back in action.

The following message was sent by Apple in response to slightly less-than-optimal HealthKit action on iOS 8 at launch. The issues presented in iOS 8 with HealthKit are – as far as we can tell – fixed entirely with iOS 8.0.1.

"We discovered a bug that prevents us from making HealthKit apps available on iOS 8 today. We're working quickly to have the bug fixed in a software update and have HealthKit apps available by the end of the month." – Apple Spokesperson

The iOS 8.0.1 update includes the new Health app with Medical ID and sharing abilities. The Health app is available to iPhone and iPod touch users for now – iPad is still in the pipeline.

Also note that you might not want to update to iOS 8.0.1 quite yet. Some "No Service" issues have been popping up here and there.

Meanwhile Google continues work on their own Google Fit program for Android devices. It's the war of the health systems in hospitals and healthcare centers – sooner than you might think.
