GTA V jacks seven Guinness World Records

Grand Theft Auto V has been a raging success for Rockstar. The game was the fastest title to reach $1 billion in sales ever. GTA V also was one of the most successful games in its first 24 hours reaching over $800 million within its first day. The official world record people from Guinness World Records have now announced that GTA V has grabbed seven official world records.

Among the records that the game now has to its name includes the most amount of units sold within 24 hours and the record for the fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion. Some of the world records the game grabbed were previously held by Call of Duty: Black Ops and Hollywood big-budget movies such as Avatar and The Avengers.

The complete list of Guinness World Records now held by GTA V includes the best-selling action-adventure video game in 24 hours, best-selling video game and 24 hours, fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion, and fastest video game to gross $1 billion. Rounding out the records are highest grossing video game in 24 hours, highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours, and most viewed trailer for action-adventure video game.

It's always interesting when video games are able to outperform big budget Hollywood films and that's exactly what GTA V has done. GTA 5 launched on September 17 for the Xbox 360 and PS3. It took the game about 72 hours to generate over $1 billion in revenue. The game is still in the second place spot on the best-selling video games list weeks after launch indicating that people are still buying the game in significant numbers.
