Galaxy S8 vs iPhone 8 Release Date Battle

The differences between the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the iPhone 8 (or iPhone 7s) will be grand – never before will the two phones look more different from one another. Their functionality will also appear different – running the latest Samsung-modified version of Android on one device has never looked more different from Apple's iOS than here in the year 2017. But once that release date comes for both devices, you can bet they'll be sparring up close and personal in the minds of millions.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 will look and feel more premium and unattainable than any previous model. It'll include features that were released with the Galaxy Note 7 and will push the boundaries of display abilities with a double-edged screen. It'll be the best in all that Samsung's ever offered in a smartphone before.

And that's what a Samsung smartphone needs to be here in 2017. It needs to look like the best smartphone in the world, and act as such. As Google has shown with the Google Pixel, Android devices aren't all about having mind-blowing new features. Android smartphone success is measured by how much a company can dominate with advertising dollars and consumer mindshare.

Apple's iPhone has nearly a decade of dedication in massive advertising spending, allowing the edge to be pushed. Millions of prospective users already intend on buying another iPhone when the time is right. Apple needs only give them a ready to make this year the year they trade up to a new iPhone 7s, or iPhone 8, or iPhone Pro, if you prefer.

Apple's newest features on the iPhone in the year 2017 will be features that've been appearing on Android smartphones for several years, at least. Let's not get insane, now. It's only up to Apple to say that they've worked on including these features long enough that they've perfected them to their own standards. Once that's the case, features can be presented as new in the sense that they've never been released like they will be with Apple – they've never gone through that specific rigorous obstacle course.

Both the iPhone and the Galaxy smartphones will be singularly beautiful, and both will have a slightly larger launch partner. Both devices will be able to shoot extraordinary photos – perhaps, MAYBE better than the Google Pixel. And I estimate there'll be very little in the way of Apple users switching to the Galaxy or Galaxy users switching to iPhone. Instead, it'll either be time to trade up from something old, or wait until next year.
