CyanogenMod 7.1 Android hack released, HP Touchpad inclusion imminent

If there's a king of Android ROMs, aka complete replacement of the visible workings of a mobile device in this case, it's CyanogenMod. For those of you that do not know, CyanogenMod is used by thousands of Android users across the earth, it being the most used Android ROM by far, and today the developers behind the project have announced that it's been upgraded to version 7.1. This version continues to closely replicate Android 2.3 Gingerbread, now with a new laundry list of feature updates as well as a short list of new devices it will work with, including, yes indeed, the HP TouchPad we've been waiting so long to modify.

This newest version of CyanogenMod now supports nearly 70 devices with more on the way. Newest entrants into the world of Cyan including such gems as the HTC Desire S, the HTC Incredible S, Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Galaxy S II, T-Mobile G2X by LG, Motorola Cliq, and the entire line of Sony Ericsson XPERIA devices. The entire line of Sony Ericsson XPERIA devices have been added thanks to the FreeXperia and the newly supportive Sony Ericsson crew, having just pledged their involvement in the modification of XPERIA devices through the future.

This newest version of CyanogenMod includes enhanced Bluetooth support for mice as well as tethering, app launching gestures, brand new lock screen widgets, a completely rewritten LED notification system, and device-specific modifications galore. Then there's a built-in screenshot function which we've been hoping for since the birth of Android itself as well.

Devices currently in the BETA ROM, coming up quick, include the HP TouchPad, HTC Sensation, Vision, and the LG Optimus 3D. Gold releases for each of these devices should be starting in a few weeks according to the Cyan crew, while Gold versions (aka basically final releases) are available right now from CyanogenMod via your regular outlets. Will you mod?
