Care by Volvo priced for 2019 XC40 car subscriptions

Volvo has priced up its Care by Volvo subscription scheme, offering drivers a brand new 2019 XC40 for a fixed monthly payment. The plan, announced alongside the new XC40 crossover earlier this year, folds not only use of the car itself, but insurance, maintenance and servicing, and registration into a single price. Unlike a typical lease, there’s no downpayment involved.

Care by Volvo will also involve a shorter period than a lease, too. The standard subscription will be 24 months, though after 12 months you’ll be able to change cars and renew for another 24 month period.

Initially, two XC40 models will be offered. Care by Volvo subscribers will be able to choose between the XC40 T5 AWD Momentum with Premium Package, or the XC40 T5 AWD R-Design with Premium Package. Both have the Vision Package, heated front seats and steering wheel, and the panoramic roof. The Momentum also gets 19-inch black diamond cut wheels, while the R-Design adds the Harman Kardon sound system and 20-inch 5-double spoke matte diamond cut wheels.

Pricing starts at $600 per month. Now, that might sound a lot, since regular sales of the XC40 will kick off at $35,200 for Momentum trim with the T5 four-cylinder Drive-E powertrain and AWD. However, Care by Volvo throws in some costs that would normally be on top of a regular lease.

For instance, there’s 24/7 customer care and concierge services, along with roadside assistance. There’s a 15,000 mile annual allowance, together with tire and wheel damage protection. All factory-scheduled maintenance is included, as well as wear-and-tear replacements like wipers and brakes.

There’s also a Liberty Mutual Insurance policy, with $250,000 bodily injury protection per person and $500,000 bodily injury coverage per accident with a $500 deductible. There’s also comprehensive and collision coverage.

“Care by Volvo takes the guesswork out of car ownership,” Anders Gustafsson, Volvo USA CEO and president, said of the plan, “covering insurance, service, maintenance and basically everything except gas.”

Care by Volvo subscriptions are opening up online now. The first 2019 XC40 cars will show up in early Spring 2018.
